Did you do the paper work to change it? |

Well if you didn't change your name, then it wasn't changed. You physically have to go do that. |

Actually, YOU have to do it. You take your marriage license and get a new drivers license. Then, you take it to Social Security and get that changed. You call your credit card companies. You tell your bank.
Etc... |

If you didn't go to the social security office and change it, then it wasn't done. |

Your last name doesnt automatically change when you get married, you need to go to the Secretary of State, & then change your SSC @ your Social Security Office....Congrats! |

If you filed for a name change and got your new social security card and your drivers' license/ID with your new name on it, it's been changed. |

You have to go about changing it yourself. The social security administration is the best start. You also should go to the bank, dmv, etc... to change your name, if that is what you desire. You will need a certified copy of your marriage certificate (you will not get it back) to send to s.s. and have a certified copy with you at the rest of the places as well as your normal documents they require. |
|

You have to change your name yourself. You have to take the marriage certificate to the county courthouse and file it so it is put on record. After you change your SSN, you have to go change your drivers license. From there, all the credit cards, and whatever else you have that requires your new last name. This process is not done for you. You have to do it yourself. If you keep your maiden name on the SSN and use a different last name at work, you could run into some real problems later. |

You have to actually change your name it doesn't get changed for you. So if you didn't change it, it's not changed. |
|

Chrys
|
actually it's not changed until YOU change it.
If you changed your SS card to reflect your married name, also changed your drivers license, etc...it had to have been changed BY you.
There is NO law that says when you get married that you have to change your name in any way.
So if you don't know if you changed your name after you got married...where were you ??? |
|

You have to go to the court house and get your marrage liscence and when you do they should ask if you want to change your name and to write it out how you want it to apear (exp. Harber, Harber Smith). After you get get your marrage liscence back you need to go to the Social Security office and request a new SS card due to name change. |

Your name doesn't automatically change when you get married, unless YOU request the change on all your IDs (driver's license, Social Security Card, etc....). If you don't make the changes, your maiden name will remain everywhere.
Have you already decided that you want to carry you husband's name? If so, you have to get the ball rolling. If you don't do anything, nothing will happen. :O)
Good luck! |

Usually (I don't know where you live) you have to go out and physically change your name, otherwise you keep your maiden name. You have to go out and show your marriage certificate at the Ministry of Transportation, and Health Card office...or else all of your id says your maiden name...the act of getting married, in itself, does not simply change your surname. Plus, your birth certificate will always say your maiden name. |
|

Life ain't always easy
 |
Well even though you can go by your husband's name without changing it, it's not legally your last name until YOU go to the social security office and change it there first. Once you get that done, you can change it elsewhere...such as on your license, work, etc. |
|

|
Have you notified Social Security? Your last name legally changed when you signed your marriage certificate, but if you haven't notified SS, your tax records, etc. are still under your maiden name. |
|

 |
It's not changed unless you went through all the crap to get it changed.
Did you go to the SS office and have them change it?
If not then it is not changed.
Once you've gotten your new SS card you have to go to the DMV and get your license/id changed with your new name on it. |
|

What name did you sign on your marriage certificate? If it was your husbands then yes your name was legally changed if it was your original name then no...
Now you have to take your marriage licence to the dept of licencing and get a new licence and then go to the local social security office and get a new social security card there... you will need your old and new licence as well as your marriage certificate. Then off to your bank, credit card company and anywhere else that needs to know your name has changed... it's a pain in the but but not hard.
I just did this in August soooo
Best of Luck |

When you marry, you last name doesn't just change on its own, you have to do it...that is the only way it will ever be changed. |
|

unless you changed it w/the use of your marriage license it probably hasn't been changed !!:)d |

When applying for your marriage license, you should've been asked if you were taking his surname. After you get the license in the mail after the ceremony, then you need to take it and your ID to the Social Security office and fill out the paperwork. |

If you didn't do it, than it wasn't changed. No one will change your name, but yourself. |

Changed with whom? The state? You can check with the Secretary of State or the Social Security office |

There should have been paperwork that got filled out around the time of your wedding that was just for that purpose. |

LOL it is done automatically . BUT you do have to let SSA, drivers license, your bank account, checks and boss all know of course.
SSA will need a copy of the marriage license. Not sure if Drivers lIcense does, but bet they do, sense all of the terrorists stuff going on. |

Duh, you should know that your name turns into your bf's name, thats what the vicar says, i think. |

Surely, you made that decision yourself, didn't you? |
|

 |
When you filled out the paperwork for the license it asked what your name is now and what your name will be after the wedding so provided you filled it out correctly, when the license was filed with the state, your name should have automatically been changed. Contact the department of records and make sure the license was filed. |
