Your relationship has survived 9 years... but you don't' have a decent relationship with his parents? I'd say its high time to forget about it! Some people are so stubborn and stuck in their ways and opinions that you can't shake them no matter how hard you try - and the stress isn't worth it!! Be yourself - don't do anything special for them that you wouldn't do for your own parents. You are in a relationship with their son, not them. Live your life knowing that you tried your best, and that should be good enough for you and your fiance. |

just be nice and respectful and if they still don't approve...then there is nothing you can do. |

WOW 9 yrs.. just dont try to hard.. let them come to you.. bc eventually they have to accept the fact that their son is with you and going to stay with you... just try to be polite and respectful as possible, dont seem too desperate to gain their acceptance... that may just make things worse. |

I wonder what you'd want to say to them after 9 years. If you haven't won them over yet......when do you think it's gonna happen?
Why would you put your self in that situation in the first place and allowed it to go on for 9 years? |

Well, if you have been dating for 9 years, either they do not now about it (so they are dumb, or are not interested) or he does not care about what they think...or nobody cares...
Why should you?
Maybe a "culture" can be purchased at the local flea market. |

honestly, it's their loss.
they should really learn how to be great parents and be happy for their son/daughter. and FYI this is america. ethnicity shouldn't matter. you should not be the one to make everything good between you two. they're old enough to know what's right and wrong. let them be the mature one. |

Try to find things you all hav in common and, like, go over for dinner or something and have a decent conversation. |

Well this is a very tough subject to overcome. I believe that it should not be up to you to build the relationship if you and their son are in love. Love is something that can not be questioned. I believe the say is 'Love prevails all'. Obviously you two are meant to be with one another. The parents are just not accepting but the relationship is about you two and you two only. If you two are truly happy then his parents will one day accept you as part of the family. Good luck with the future in laws.

After this long you have to tell them that its not there decision who there son dates bc he is a grown man and if he loves you he wouldn't either! |

The truth is...you may not be able to. My advice would be to treat them with respect, always raise yourself to a higher level then their narrow-minded ways, and try not to feel guilty about not being successful with your efforts. If you are truly doing your best to have a positive outcome in your interactions with them, nothing more could be asked of you. You seem to have the best intentions at heart, you cannot always control how others will behave. Keep the faith, but you may have to accept the fact that you may not be able to build such a relationship.

well some people never change so the only thing you could do is just remember that you and him are together not you and his parents. hopefully he feels the same way and loves you enough not to care what his parents think and just live your lives together. May be they will get over it and realize that their son is happy. Just ignore them act like you don't notice that they have a issues with it. |

kinda missed the boat there didn't ya.
well... get in with another member of the family that can vouch for you... also go after the mother... the father is usually the tough one to break... they are also statistically more traditional.... so go after the mother. |

Try to learn a lot about their culture, and find out things that they like, and then maybe you'll find something in common. Be sure to use your best manners around them, offer to clean the dishes after dinner and such, and be sure to compliment them. |

take my wisdom, if they don't like you after 9 years they absolutely never will. are you that pathetic? never ever change who you are for his family, |
