How do you deal with a partner who is married to his job?

hmmm i think it would be so hard to change a man...ya can't, if one tries he'll hate ya... if ya give him an option, he wont be happy even if he agrees to cut it out....so my advice..accept it...and make time special with him, if you are sure he loves ya

I am in the same boat. If my husband put into our marriage what he puts into his job maybe we would have a chance, at this point I am contemplating divorce. It's been a problem since we have been together, and it's time for me to face the music. He isn't going to change, why spend the rest of my life miserable I work to pay the bills, not to revolve my life around my job :(

Why is he married to the job?

You could say that my husband is married to the job, but it is because he's trying to grow his company - precisely because he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life in the rat race. So hopefully the investment of time now will pay off later.

If, however, it's a lifestyle choice, it may be a habit that will be hard to break. At some point, you have to decide if you can adapt - or if it makes you two incompatible in the long run.

I'm in the exact same situation, my husband is a total workaholic. More so now because of the damn recession! I always talk to him about it and tell him that I don't get the attention I really deserve and that we should do more stuff together and he takes out time on weekends to go out on dates, movies, etc. So, talk to your hubby and tell him how you feel. That you feel under appreciated and that you think you deserve more out of the relationship and that you want to go out at LEAST on weekends, with "you and me" time only. When we first got married, whenever my husband and I went on "dates" he would be talking on the phone half the time with his clients and I would get so pissed off; that is just downright RUDE! If you're on a date, you should focus on your date, not your phone.

Did you know this about him when you married him? If so, I'd say you knew what you were getting into and if you love your husband, you would do your best to deal with it. Talk to him about spending more time with you. Go on a date. Try to put time aside. Keep the lines of communication open.

And eqaddix & ohrealek.....people like you are the reason that marriages aren't sacred anymore...oh just get a divorce and move on. does til death do us part not mean anything anymore?

You need to find out why they think the job is more important than a person to person relationship. If you are not married to this person, then I would be out the door and finding someone that would like to be with me.

If that doesn't work then find a new partner.

Get a new partner. You can't change him. You can only change yourself. If you aren't happy now, chances are you won't be happy later. Good luck!
