You don't need to go to a lawyer and spend butt tons of money, that's just stupid.
What you need to do is look up the forms you need online (google free divorce papers north carolina) or something like that, then fill them out, take them to the court house and it will cost you about $185 (that's what it cost me 3 years ago when I did this)
then they will notarize your papers and give you a court date. Last step is to take the COPIES of those papers to the Sherriff's office in the city that your wife/husband lives in and tell them they need to serve him/her with divorce papers.
They get the address and you walk out the door and sit and wait till your court date.
I showed up at court and was out the door 10 minutes later a single woman. (And no, the spouse is not required to show, but they do have to be served the papers.)

1st step go to a lawyers office with alot of money. And he will do the rest. Also, you can call around and get an idea of about how much it will cost. Try for an uncontested divorce, it's cheaper. IF the wife is willing. |
