How do you know when someone is in a mid-life crisis?

I know we all go through a mid-life crisis, men and women. Women in particular go through tremendous hormonal changes that affect their behaviour.. As well, after the kids are grown if we had had any at all we start realizing there has to something more to life. So, we start doing things we may never have done before, we start focusing less on the family and since we have more time for ourselves, start focusing on ourselves. However, many times the balance of focus on the marriage and family and ourselves gets somewhat off kilter. Many of these changes are perfectly normal, all I can say the killer in all situations is to not communicate. Stop keeping it to yourself, speak to your significant other about your feelings and open up about life more. Open up with an open heart and open mind and realize we do change as we mature, I found myself at a mature age and unfortunately as I had left it too long, lost my best friend in the process. These are difficult times to be alone and trying to start over. IF some signs are there, do as I suggested communicate.

Infidelity. Buying large, expensive-type items with absolutely NO discussion. A sudden want to look younger & more fit. Etc. You get the point.

and its a crazy time!
I'll not go thru another one as I'm over 50, and I won't make it
to 100!

There isn't a truly defining moment that you just *know* it has arrived. You just start second guessing everything and wondering of there is more out there than what you have. It may be a girlfriend, a new car, change of appearance, big purchases.....it could be anything. When you get to that point, look at your life and see what you could do different to be happy with what you have. Finding something you feel like you are missing will not solve anything at all....

when my husband went through his, he was no longer happy with his life, he began to act like a teenager again, hanging out with people he never would have before. he became depressed, just wasn't the same man. guess he looked back on life and thought there should have been more to his life. he left me for a younger woman, began to do drugs, let his hair grow long, and basically became someone else. i think its all about not wanting to get old so they Surround themselves with things they use to do when they were younger so they can feel younger.its all about not being happy with life as it is and wanting to return to a time in their life when things were good.
