How long can one sustain the other spouse's sick behaviour?

a person usually doesn't change without some kind of intervention be it therapy, be it a realization that they are hurting the other person, or some intervention from god. communication is the key, but there are no guarantees that the person will change. but usually a person doesn't change. first u need to talk to the person try making him understand what he is doing to u hurts u. but if they don't change u need to get out of the marriage before it makes u emotionally sick.

Women make this mistake all the time. They think they can change their husband and turn him into the kind of man they want to be married to.

What you see, is what you get! You can't change a leopard's spots. Irrational, abusive, dominating, and hateful! Why are you still in this marriage? Please don't say, "because I love him." I'm so sick of hearing women use that excuse for staying in an abusive marriage. I divorced a man that I deeply loved. He abused me and our daughter. We deserved a better life and we didn't deserve to be abused.

Stop being weak and kidding yourself that he will change. Get out now, before you have stayed with him too long and you no longer have the strength or the self esteem to leave him.

You can never change another person. You can only change your own actions. You sound like you are really tired of all of this. You can decide to be strong in yourself. You may enlist a close friend or family member for moral support. I think you need to ask him to go to counselling since ending the marriage is not what you want. You can also tell him that you are going to seperate from him until you feel things are better- but make sure you tell him that you do not wish to end the marriage, you love him, but you won't be mistreated anymore. Maybe then he will see that HE needs to make some changes to keep from losing you.

This sounds like drug addiction, acoholism or mental illness. Go get some counseling for yourself in order to deal with what happening in your in your marriage. Do it for yourself, your children, your spouse and your marriage. You all deserve better. Once you know what you're dealing with, the healing process will begin.

You can't change him. He has to change himself. Thats the only way we, as guys, seem to change. We see what we are losing and make a choice. Otherwise he can make a short term decision but it wont really happen till it sinks in.
