How old is too old?

Absolutely not!!! With the average life span increasing every year, he should live to be 85 or so which places his child around 45 or so if he has one in approximately 6 years. However, please advise him that having a child is a LIFELONG commitment and NOT to be taken lightly. Obviously he has some experience with children however having 2 divorces doesn't sound like one of two things. Either he has the unfortunate ability of falling in love with the wrong women or can't handle kids. If he finds the "right" one - tell him to go for it - the rewards are priceless!!!

No he's not. I've seen a lot of older men who've had kids in their 50's (first kids). My FIL didn't have any kids until he was in his 30's and he could've never been a better father, he did a good job raising my husband.

He does seem to be a bit scared though.

Who are we to say too old. I think that if he has the desire to be a father then he is a great age. Usually the men that are 35 or older have their acts together.

No. Definitely not! But more likely, he's just protecting himself. He probably doesnt feel like it will ever happen and thus doesnt want to set himself up for a fall.

Incidentally, I'm 35, my husband's 39. We met 3 years ago and now have a 1yr old daughter. He too wanted children. He too had been only with women who for one reason or another couldnt give him any. He too had given up. When he met me, he told me he wanted children. I had none and wanted none. He worked on me until I gave in. Was the best thing I ever did. She's fantastic!!!

Oh no no no! i'm 18 and getting married this summer but i have vowed no to have children until i'm 35! but he should have them BEFORE he is 40 because i assume he wants to be there when they grow up, so the sooner the better

He is not old, he is unlucky and very inmature for his age... thinking like that, still being so young!!! I know 50 yr olds thinking about having kids again in their new relationships...

I dont mean to sound rude to you, because you are too caring for him, but send him out to the real world, stop mothering him... he needs to grow up and get a life... be firm, otherwise he will never have the opportunity to share all he is capable of giving, eventually falling in love again and having his own children... let him be, he will ge the idea soon...

Not trying to hurt your feelings, but he doesn't sound too old, he sounds too immature. He has two failed marriages and all he can say is, he wants to be a father? Children are a lifetime, you can't divorce them when the rough times come along; you can't bail on them or turn them in for another. Also, what are the odds that both wives had their tubes tied? Hmmm

He needs to get himself together without complicating the life of a child; it just sounds like he needs someone to go to the playground with him.

no but he is obviously dating women that have kids and are fixed for a reason......maybe you should sit him down and talk to him heart to heart........he needs what is best for him.......not just beacuse you want him to should he have a child.........maybe he doesn't have the heart to tell you he would rather not....some people just don't want to bring children into this world because they feel the world is messed up.........wish you luck though
