My husband's dad past away in December. He wrote a eulogy for his daughter to read at the funeral. I was not present. It was out of state. He then decides to make this beautiful gift for his mom to put this typed eulogy in it. He showed me the first 3 pages of it but had 4 more pages to it and emailed it to his daugther to type out cause my husband has no patience with scripts, nice formatting and etc...
His daughter never completed it and she told her mother (his ex) to finish it.
4 months later he wants to get this done. I went in the computer and signed in on his log in.
When I read the 7 pages at the end he says ...
And this 18 years burden I have put on my
children's mother , will never be compounded by another...
I said to myself what the F... does he mean by this.
I didn't mention it to him but said listen I will do it and fix it up for you in 1 day...
He prints it out and types over it saying and this 18 year burden I put on my children, wife and mother ...
I flipped out.. more like broke down.
I said how dare you cover it up.
I said I saw what you had put and now give it to me.
He left them in 1990 when his kids were very young. Note- he didn't leave them for me.
I been married to him 14 years now and I said you still feel guilty 18 years later? I know he does feel some guilt but what the hell...
She never remarried. This thing he made for his mother was nothing about me and then he covers it up.
I don't know what to feel and I slept in the other bed room last night.

Being in a marriage for 14 years and having your husband still feel guilty about leaving the ex 18 years ago is a problem.

I see where this would be upsetting.
You need to remember this isn't about you. During times like these people often reflect on the things they have or feel as though they did wrong. It's common for people to think of their own mortality.
You need to remind yourself - this isn't about you. Even though he feels guilt it doesn't diminish his feelings for you. It just shows he made a mistake ( the way he left) and in retrospect feels bad.
You should see it as a good sign that he won't do the same to you one day. And that the man has a conscience. |
