I have been acting very needy and somewhat self-pitty like?

My boyfriend is gone on a business trip he left Sunday and wont be back until Friday evening. I have been super emotional and sensitive instead of using this time for myself, and showing him I'm proud of his hard work etc.
He is working in an environment where it's all about goal setting and positive attitudes etc. therefore he is all positive and enlightened and I'm all mopey and needy sounding... as if I can't handle being alone. What should I do? I need to be more positive and more bubbly when he calls, instead of feeling sorry for myself! I need to be happy and use my time constructively but instead all I do is feel sad for myself and to be honest... if I were him and hearing my tone and bummed out voice, it would not make me want to talk to me... It would be a downer on my positive attitude!

How can I change this about myself? I need to be happy and proud of my hubby for doing wonderful things for himself and for us! Perhaps he isn't the best teacher when it comes to boosting me up and I need to take it upon myself to boost my own self, otherwise his positive happy goal setting ways are going to make me feel less and less happy about myself.

I'm in the same boat. Take a night class, maybe? See what summer classes are available at your local university. Too bad we didn't live closer, maybe we could chill.

As far as your neediness and mopiness-I am in the same boat. I have some pretty heavy sh*t I have been dealing with.....Be thankful for the things and the freedom that you have.

Exercise has been proven to improve your mood. I suggest to beat the blues, taking either a dance or yoga class, going to the gym and taking a class such as painting-for example. Engage your mind and body. You will feel better soon.

ps
I am going to take my own advice too bc I have been blue lately and I know it is counter-productive.

You need to find things to do to keep you busy such as just going for a walk or working out at a gym. Remember physical activity can improve mental outlook. Go to the library and read some books on being more positive and try to practice what it says. Also, a great magazine I recently discovered my help as well. Go to a bookstore which sells magazines and get a copy of "Bonkers" It is an easy way to handle many problems about being positive. Last, find some friends who are positive and spend as much time with them as you can. You are what you think you are and thinking positive will help to make you just that. Good Luck.

You really can't change this about your self, and I think it would be a mistake to try. You /need/ him around, and that's Ok, even good!

But he has to be told and explained this so he understands how important it is for him to make an extra effort to stay in contact with you while he is gone. He should call you at least every day, if not a few times a day; maybe for a few minutes during the day and for a while in the evening. Get webcams/laptop ready if you have them available.

If he just disappears for week and then comes home, it'll take you up to two days to readjust to him before he doesn't feel a bit like a stranger. If he & you really think about what that means it should start to sink in how important it is for him to stay in touch. To love you, he needs to do this.

Men generally do not suffer so; we seem more content to thrive on memories - or as the above male posters have suggested we're much easier to distract - and need to go without contact for much longer before it starts to affect us as badly.
