I need Visitation help!!!!!!!!?

Okay so i have a dad and he's not a bad dad at all but he just looks at things differently i would say. He is a big family first person but i am 16 and still do visitation. When am i supposed to stop and how do i tell him that you know? I'm not sure if he will understand and honestly I'd rather live alone rather than live with my mother or father. Is there a certain age that i am aloud to stop or what. I am also from the State of Indiana if that helps.

I read many posts from teenages on this Answers website - especially on the Family / Divorce section and I've made the same recommendation I'm going to make to you. I hope the other 16 year olds that have recently posted here about their misable lives will look into this too.

There is a U.S. government education program called JobCorps. It is free to kids ages 16 through 24. It give you a place to live, food, clothing, transportation, education, health benefits for up to two years. You do not need to be a high school graduate, no matter what age you are. They will get you through high school, vocational training and even college if you want.

Now, I'm not sure what you actual issue that you do not want to live with either parent - but if it's just that you want to run loose, than you will not be eligible to get into this program. If it is that you want to be your own man and you are able to commit to a program with responsibilities and expectations, then this program will work. There are at least one JobCorps center in every state (and that includes 2 in Indiana BTW). And you do not need to stay in your state. You need to find a location that is offering what vocational training you would like to be trained in. JobCorps will transport you to that location and give you two roundtrips home two times per year (4th of July and Christmas / Winter break).

Here's their website information....

www.jobcorps.org

But again, if you are just looking to run loose, you will not get in this program - or if you do, you'll get kicked out if you don't take it serious and follow the rules.

Good luck.

You could try to become emancipated if both parents agree. Basically, they sign over their parental rights and you are now in control to live your life as you wish. The judge has to agree and see you are a responsible individual.

Doesn't sound like that is going to happen, though. It's okay to want to hang out with your friends and to spend family time together. Explain to your dad you want to do both. Maybe have a movie night where family and friends can get together. You aren't a little girl anymore and tell him that. Write a letter if you don't think he will understand face to face.

Sorry sweetie, but 18 or emancipating yourself are the only choices.

I became emancipated by default when I graduated from HS a year early and subsequently moved to the college dorms at 17 years old. It was tough and my parents weren't even divorced.

be grateful that your dad still wants you around. My daughter's father has visitation, but doesn't really interact much with her on her level when she is there. You could also try talking to your parents about modifying the visitation.

the magic age you're looking for is 18...to all of the questions.

You can work with your parents about the visitation thing, but it's their final call.

You can't live on your own or make your own decisions about visitation until you are 18. If one of your parents were going to amend the agreement, your opinion would be taken in to consideration but you may not get your way. If your dad is a good guy just let him spend time with you. In a couple of years you can do whatever you want.
