There are a couple of states that are archaic enough to carry on the practice of holding spouses accountable for child support. One that I can recall off the top of my head is Illinois. Not only do they do this, but they also consider the new spouses income for determining child support.
So the best way to get an accurate answer is telling us what state you're in. |

YES.. the reverse happened to a friend of mine. His wife owed child support and they garnished his check to pay it. |

No. It's between him and his ex-wife and the responsibility lies solely on him to pay it. |

Until there are modifications in place he still has to pay. I would suggest he have the court order modified ASAP because that child support builds up pretty quick when you can't pay it. Just make sure that once he is gainfully employed again he takes good care of his children. |
