If it's someone who knows you're married and isn't trying to get in your bed, then it could easily be a tongue-in-cheek way of either saying "yes but not happily" or "I'm in the process of a divorce". |

ilovepibbxtra

Sort of should mean they are but they're unsure of the relationship. OR they're almost married or might as well be. |

They are married - probably not happy. |

Maybe they're seperated. Or engaged. Or have a common law marriage. |

They could be a cheater or maybe separated or going through a divorce. If I were you I'd ask them. |

It might mean they are separated, or contemplating separation or divorce. |

It is usually listed as complicated. They usually do not have a category for this state. It may mean:
1. Technically still married but fully separated with all assets split and everything decided, clarified and laid out exactly as if they are divorced. All of the document filed in court are exactly the same as Divorce Papers. All that needs to happens is for the Documents to be processed as a Final Divorce Filing. That is exactly my situation now. So I am (sort of married - actually still married by law, just legally and permanently separated.) and kinda available for marriage. All I have to do is take the final step of filing for a Final Divorce Decree.
2. People living Common-Law (cohabiting together for over six months) are considered legally married for all practical purposes - except they have not taken out a marriage licence, have not been married through a marriage ceremony and have not taken vows. Some people say this is being "sort of married" and plan to get married legally later with a proper ceremony.
3. Similar nebulous arrangements exist where the parties may not be cohabiting permanently, but they are very committed to each other with marriage plans for the near of distant future. They also consider themselves "sort of married" because they live and cohabit together from time to time. |

They share each other to some extent. |

It can mean one of two things. One is that they cheat, the other is that they are separated. If they don't make it clear exactly what sort of means then I would lean towards the cheating. |

It's like being a little pregnant...no such thing, either you are or you aren't and if they say "sort of" assume that they are. |
|

TABBY
 |
Well to me that would be like. "Sort of being pregnant" Either you are or you're not. Very simple. |

It means that they have no respect for the person they are married to and enjoy having their cake and eating it to. A married man making this kind of statement to anyone one concerning his relationship with his wife tells you a whole lot about his character and his own issues with himself. |
|

allieQ
 |
that's ridiculous. no one is "sort of" married...sounds like they are married legally but are not committed to that marriage...either way, i'd run. |
|

Bleu

i would think they are obviously in a rocky marriage! |

Your Reality Check Bounced

It means "Id be willing to ruin my marraige to sleep with you because I am immature and selfish" |
|

tlkoons2000

It means you should run as fast as you can away from the idiot. They are a cheater and will cheat on you. NO RESPECT!!!!! |
|

Vanity Affaire
 |
That they are in fact married, but playing games, either by not being faithful or not being loyal to their vows. You can't be sort of married, he just wishes he wasn't married, but that's his fault. |
|

CrazySage

I think marriage required both side (man and woman). This mean situation is not up to the person you ask. |
