Hi,
I Study in Russia and I am a final year student. I will finish my college this summer and go to India. I have been In Russia for 6 years and I am in love with A Russian boy. We have been together for 4 years.
We really love each other. His family loves me too... But now I am going back, I have to tell my parents about him!
I don't know how they will react! The Indian society and culture is absolutely different! I am not sure even if my parents will accept him or not!
WHat should I do? What if my parents rejected? I don't want to hurt their feelings not do I want to lose my love!
Please help!

There are enough cross cultural marriages around for that sort of a thing. If your parents are orthodox you have to first introduce him and sit down and talk to them. If they throw a fit, you will have to keep your cool and see how the tide turns. They will come around when they see you happy and also I guess when they get grandkids :)
That's difficult to predict someone's random reaction, you know your parents best. I didn't have orthodox parents and we lived in together for a while so my parents knew that we could handle married life well.
If you are 18 you can get married in a court. The paperwork and other formalities will have to be filed for in advance so you don't have to hang around forever (though I guess Russia should be easy).
Also make sure you have a job owing to Russia's economy as also a great help for your visa. |

When it comes to love you have to take risks. Try telling your parents that you really love him. I know the culture is strict and all, but after a while they will learn to accept him. If they love him a lot and get to know him, i'm sure they will understand! Good luck |

Hello. Was riding in the same ship. I am a sardarni and my man is a bengali.Now you can imagine.See i'll give you a very practical answer which one of my well wisher gave me.Set your priorities first.I know family and love both are very important and we don't wanna loose both of them.But at the end you will be living with your husband and his family only.How many times you will be going to meet your family after marriage - once a week ,after sometime once a month or may be 6 months/1 yr, if you are deciding to live in Russia.Family will not come to interfere in your life once you get married.What if you marry a man of your parent's choice, will they come forward and keep you forever when that guy doesn't come up to your mark.You can't even think of getting married to somebody else , can you?
So its better to convince them by hook or by crook.Come up with his positive points,tell your parents that he loves you and cares about you like they do.I am sure they will take time infact lot of time and will be ready for your marriage.
What ever happens don't leave true love, it comes in life just once.Go with your heart.Best of luck and take care. |

Just paused a bit and do not think for any negative reactions of your parents yet. If you and the guy really loved each other just proved to your parents that both of you are. Give them reasons and prove to them that marrying that guy could complete your happiness. I'm sure they could understand that.

Your parents most probably would reject this india and yea Indian culture is way different than what you have been doing for the last six year....
I guess you need to put it to them what you plan to do and see what they say or how they react. If they react positively good for you. If they react negatively, then may be you need to work it out with them..
It is a DICEY situation no doubt... ULtimately you have to decide how to go about putting it to your parents.. |

I am sure your parents love you, and in the end will understand that you really are in love with this guy. Sure, in the beginning it will be hard for you to convince them, and they will have negative reactions, but dont worry. While they scream at you, and annoy you, and say you are a disgrace for the family (when you tell them) think about your loved one. After that moment I am sure that they will think about it and agree :)
I am sure they dont want to loose their daughter.
