I have been a housewife for 16 years now. I have only worked part time 2-3 years in my married life. I am thinking of divorce and also trying to find a job. Does anyone knows whether I should get a divorce first, and be entitled to an alimony, or should I find a job. Does having a job automatically disqualify me of receiving any alimony? Thanks for your responses, no silly ones please.

I think you should look for a job. It will not only improve your life finacially but also give you confidence and keep you busy. It would be a waste sitting home waiting/living off his checks. I would rather work and be out and about. |

You would be entitled to alimony. What if he loses his job what are you going to do then. I would suggest get a job so you can be independent. It not going to hurt having two income. |

the days of sitting home and living off alimony are over. best you get a job, alimony only lasts two years any way. just enough time to find a job or get educated enough to find one. |

You can get a job first. Alimony is based on how much you make, so if you do not make too much money the alimony will be higher. I got divorced about 4 years ago so I know this to be true. |

get alimony, you deserve it! and go school meanwhile, there are plenty of 2 yr programs. then you'll be able to get a better job. |

get a job. show him you dont need or want anything from him unless he has kids with you, then you get child support, and even then i wouldnt get the child support. you can be an independent woman and work on your on take care of your kids.. youll find someone who loves you the way you deserve..move on! |
