Is it ever OK for a man to hit a woman?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it ever OK for a man to hit a woman?

To start, I am female and am single, so I'm not hitting nor being hit. This is a story I heard from someone, and our opinions differ, so I'm trying to settle the debate.

Consider this situation: A couple is fighting very badly. The man gets extremely angry, so angry that he says he needs to leave before he does anything he'll regret. When he tries to leave, the woman blocks the door. She says she DARES him to put a hand on her. He doesn't and instead finds another door. She blocks that one saying the same as before. Finally, the guy gives up and goes to bed having not slept for the day and a half this argument has been going on. She waits until he falls asleep, then follows him, gets in his face, starts yelling, and pulling blankets, sheets, and everything else off the bed before taking a slap at him. He tries to leave again. She again blocks the door. If he hits her now, is he REALLY wrong? Please be honest in your answers and avoid political correctness.

She's Really wrong for doing what she's doing. He'd be Really wrong to hit her.
He finds a way to leave or calls the cops.

Oh wow. I'm a strong believer that you should NEVER hit a women. But this chick wants to get hit. She's just trying to aggravate him. But still he should just leave. Push her away from the door (using minimum force) and leave. He's obviously the better person in this situation (unless he hits her).

b*tch had it coming.

"Some" women can be sick like this. Anyone can be pushed to limits where they need to defend themselves. Seems like she had it coming. Best defense - He should have left or restrained her.

Well, if someone is provoking you, and trying to get you to lash out at them, I guess giving them what they want is one (dumb) way to go, but it's not what I'd do.

If I were a guy, I wouldn't let her control me by allowing her to be successful at getting me to blow my top. I'd laugh my *** off at her until she got so mad she started banging her head into the wall, then I'd go. And never come back.

Does she deserve it? Yes. But, if she's trying to get me to hit her, there must be some reason for that. And, I doubt it's a reason that would benefit me.

I am the baby of nine and six of them were boys.My brothers always taught me it wasn't o.k. for any man to use me for a punching bag.But they also taught me that if you get in a mans face and act like a man you get beat down like a man.I think if you are pushing a guy the way the woman in the story did you deserve to get hit.Just because she was a woman she had no right to act the way she did.If she was a he they would have gotten hit the first time she pulled the blocking the door thing. And no one would say boo about it.Turn about is fair play.

Missy
no it's not. be she needs to go to jail because she is keeping him hostage and slapping him

I don't think the guy is wrong. Anyone can be pushed too far and if a woman is egging him on, daring him, come on!!!

she is a vicious girl, he had every right to hit her, if that happened to me I would have knocked her out, he better leave her before something bad happens, maybe she's bipolar or maybe she's crazy. whatever she is he needs to get far away from her.I feel so bad for him, he doesn't deserve being treated like that

I would hit her myself...jezz...honestly i think she deserves it but that doesn't make it right...he should just learn to lock the door and blast the music or im sure he's stronger so why doesn't he just restrain her push her into a room and leave...

Psycho Therapist
Is this story true? if he's been awake for a day and a half, wouldn't she have been awake too? then he could leave while SHE sleeps?

It seems that the woman should leave, because she is trying to abuse him mentally and verbally... the man is trying to do the right thing because he wants to "cool down" before regretting doing anything. So, the woman is trying to have her own way whatever she wants - this kind of behavior is called "controlling".

He would be wrong for hitting her, but not wrong to move her away from the door so he could leave. I can't imagine a woman being able to physically prevent a man from leaving the house. He doesn't have to hit her. Just move her aside.

And no, I don't think he would be justified in hitting her. Sounds to me like she's trying to provoke him to be violent so she can say he's abusive. With someone like that, you wouldn't want to do anything to give them any ammunition towards claiming the man is physically abusive. You can PROVE a bruise. You can't prove being provoked.

No, I still don't think it's ok for him to hit her. He can call 911 and have the police come and restrain her so he can leave. He could pick her up and move her out of the way (without hurting her). Yes, it sounds like she wants to get hit, but that's still no excuse for hitting her.

williew
No,just get the hellz away from her.....no need for hitting...........

I agree 100% that a man should not hit a woman. It sounds like she pushed too many buttons on him. Whatever happens to her, she will have no one to blame but herself. What you sow is what you reap. (Galatians 6:7) NIV

Guantanamo. This is prison of war conditions. He is being tortured. So if this is a debate, there's your answer.

Why try to create such a ridiculous set of conditions for a domestic violence set up??

He should leave, period. Jump out the three-story attic window in his boxers if he has to.

This woman sounds insane.

And I hate "what-if" scenarios.

Personally I think you have a right to protect yourself. If someone is attacking you which this nutty woman did, she should be prosecuted for assault & locked up. If she is your friend I'm sorry but she is crazy & I hope the guy gets away from her.

I do not approve of hitting a woman but she wanted to fight & all the poor guy wanted was to leave. Once she physically hit him, it should be self defense but she will most likely turn it around & lie

This sounds like what my life was with my ex wife. I had to literally pick her up and put her in another room. I proceeded to run out of the house while she reopened the bedroom door. Bad idea though cuz she locked me out for 5 hours. Happened 3 times.
