Is my ex addicted again?

My ex has been in rehab twice for prescription drugs. I have learned that he is taking them again although he knows he should not due to his past addictions. A drug test was done through the courts and found he is taking Hydromorphone 247 pg/mg, Oxycodone 2,158 pg/mg and Hydrocondone 2,000 pg/mg. Is this a large amount? His side says he as a prescription for them but I know he is abusing them but have to prove it. Do these numbers prove it? Custody and visitation rides on this. Thx!

With respect to to the previous posters, I believe they're getting the units confused.

The units you were given are pico-grams per milligram (of water)

(One "picogram" equals 1/1000,000,000,000 of a gram, this is a very small amount, but still detectable. )

On the other hand if he was clean, the test shouldn't have detected ANY.....

The detection period for opiates is only about 1-2 days, for a urine test or blood test. For a hair test, 90 days or more. If your ex gave a blood or urine test, that means he must have used within 48 hours of the test.

*However, the fact that theses drugs were detected doesn't rule out him having a prescription.*

Drug tests can only tell you that he HAS taken them, they don't tell you HOW MUCH he took. Drug levels in the body change rapidly over time.

(Note that some Hydrocodone is broken down by the liver into hydromorphone. The comparatively small amount seems to suggest he isn't taking any hydromorphone by itself, only hydrocodone and oxycodone. )

I'm not a lawyer, but I would think that it would be up to HIM to PROVE had a prescription for both those drugs, by bringing copies to the court......

Also, I wish I could say it was difficult to get a prescription for narcotic painkillers. He could have just lied to a doctor about his history. This is pretty common, actually.

Oxycodone and Hydrocodone are both pain killers. I don't know why someone would be given both drugs at the same time. The dosage? 2,000+ mg. is a HUGE dose!

It certainly sounds like he's abusing. You need to call someone a pharmacist and ask them about proper dosages, drug interactions, etc. They should be able to tell you if there's a reasonable explanation for someone being prescribed 2 powerful pain killers at the same time (perhaps even 3, I don't recognize the Hydromorphone). They will also be able to tell you if their usage falls under the category of "abuse".

2000mg of hydrocodone?! i've been taking those for years but my doctor would NEVER prescribe that much 100mg at the MOST he is definatly addicted again..

if he's been in rehab twice i dout the doctor would give him those pills again if they knew
