If you're willing to do the work.....go online to marriagebuilders.com and find the "emotional needs questionnaire" and print two.
You and he go off into separate parts of the world and really, REALLY answer this with truth and honesty. If it takes 2 hours or 2 days or 2 weeks - take the time to do this. Do not discuss any of it until you're both done. Then take a quiet weekend by yourselves and sit down and discuss what you have written. If you do this right - it will take the whole weekend to go through it.
It's deep and it's difficult and it could save you.

Many couples choose to do this ahead, even if they're having no problems. Often times, the counselor helping them can offer a lot of added insight, and help prepare them. Marriage is not so different from a car: Occasional maintenence can help prevent a major blowout.

Often they'll probe to see if there are any feelings of unfairness, inqdequacy, or minor grudges. They want to help deal with these things before you tie the knot, so they don't continue to grow under the surface.

If she feels inadequate because she's put on a little weight, it's good going into the marriage to address that, get it out in the open, and allow her spouse to address it with sensitivity to the subject.

If he feels like he's getting the short end of the stick on something about the moving arrangements, that should be addressed as well.

Any number of things could be unsaid under the surface, and it's best to address them beforehand.

Remember, the counselor genuinely wants to help. Even if you're caught off guard, the best thing you can do is to be open to that.

This type of counselling is practical counselling. It's meant to help you explore how you view your future together. Have you talked about your careers? What about children? How will you manage your careers once you have a family? How do you manage money? What do you view your role as in terms of financial contributions? How do you want to communicate with each other? How will you resolve disagreements? That sort of thing.

Depends why you are getting counseling! If you are doing it just because- be prepared to be asked questions. There has to be a reasone why you are seeking counseling?!?

Catholics. require that you go to counseling before marriage, It isn't your typical counseling. It is just to see how will the two of you get along ,if there is any questions about marriage , family etc.
