I want to visit my family once or twice a year and my husband thinks that it is unfair that we need to spend our vacation time going to see my family. He doesn't consider that to be a vacation. What do I do to make everyone happy?

His family lives in the same town as us. We can see them any time we want. He has never lived away from his family. My family is very important to me. My brother and his wife just had their 2nd baby. I think seeing my nephew and being a part of my nieces life is important. As it is I have only been home once in the last 2 and 1/2 years. I don't want to take seperate vacations. It bothers me that he doesn't think spending time with my family is important when I spend lots of time with his.

Don't worry about what will make everyone happy. Worry about what will make you happy. Are you close with your family? Is it important to you that you see them for your own benefit? If so, you should tell your husband that.
Explain to him that seeing your family is something you need to feel satisfied and happy, just as he needs to see his own family. |

He is right but you should not have to live without them either. If he does not want to use his vacation for that then you should get both. A vacation and time with your family. I would go with the once a year and see if they can come to you the other time. |

organise a camp out or something... with both families.. or just make sure you spend equal time with his family....

mmm, go to yours once and his once instead of yours twice.
or if your only going once a year switch off every year to which one you go to, like one year go to his, then one year go to yours.
another idea is to get a webcam and have your families get webcams, then you can talk to them to cope with not seeing them.
