My husband's been missing for a while now, am I allowed to move on?

My husband walked out on me at the end of February. I haven't spoken to him since and I had no way of getting in contact with him. He didn't take any of his credit cards with him, he left his car, he hasn't touched any of the money in our joint account, didn't take anything but some clothes and personal possessions. I've spoken with his mom a few times and I think she knows where he is but she won't really give me a straight answer.

Anyhow, I'm not really worried about him I'm sure he's okay. If he wanted to be found I would have already found him. We're still married but I'm ready to date other people, would this be inappropriate?

What are you talking about? How can you be ready to date when your husband left two months ago? I'm not saying this because you are still married, he left, screw him, but I am saying this because you have just been dealt a major blow. The guy took off, his stupid mother wont give you any info about her precious baby and you haven't finished one thing before starting another. You need to file for divorce, get done with him before you start with another. Imagine bringing some wonderful guy into this mess? Not fair to him. Don't do it. Dump the loser hubby with a quick divorce and move on!

It's inappropriate as long as you're still married (although understandable), you need a divorce. Abandonment should be adequate grounds to get a summary judgment - since he isn't going to show up at the hearings.
If he's been gone for more than 24 hours you can report him missing to the police and they may at least verify that he is OK.

First get a divorce before you start to date that way if you find someone you like you don't have to explain yourself saying you are still marry.

it all depends on what your comfortable with... if you don't wanna be with him i'd file for divorce.... febuary was a long time ago... good luck =)

Well you might want closure on this relationship first. I would wait for 3 months then apply for a divorce. In the meantime protect yourself. Get your own account and credit cards in your name only.

Yes you should move on but you need to find him so you can tell him that you want a divorce... So you can really move on..

First, find a good divorce lawyer and see what he says. I had a friend whose husband disappeared on her; I can't remember exactly what the lawyer told her, but I believe it had something to do with putting a public notice in the paper for him to come forward and begin the proceedings...or something like that. Anyway, just find a lawyer!

Also, ask your lawyer about the dating thing. I'm not sure about that - you don't want to mis-step and accidentally commit adultery or anything like that. As I said I'm not sure about that, best to ask the lawyer.

As for appropriate? If the lawyer says it's fine to date, then I say heck yes it's appropriate, as long as you are honest with the men you date about what is going on - UP FRONT, meaning before the first date!

Well, sounds like you're ready to move on and obviously he has. I'd pass word along to his mom that it's time to start divorce proceedings he needs to move things along if he's not going to let you contact him. I would say it's okay to hang out with someone else, but make sure they know that you're not technically divorced yet.

At least file for an official separation, pending divorce before you go looking elsewhere. If nothing else that's a heck of a lot fairer on anybody you might be dating, let alone your (hopefully soon to be ex) husband.
