My husband left the country....?

He left the country this morning to Italy, and thats about all I know... I am left now to take care of all the rent, the bills, plus his hospital bill... absolutely everything. He was in an accident a couple of weeks ago, and during his recovery at home he was inviting his friends over to drink beer and smoke pot while I was at work, yet never filed for financial assistance. And now he left the country... what can I do? I had filed for divorce and he was served on March 27th... and now he is not here and I am left with ALL the bills... absolutely everything... I'm freaking out... what can I do? what do I do about the divorce and the bills he is responsbile for? The hospital bill is going to be probably $20,000 alone at least.... what do I do????

From what I know, you guys have been seperated for awhile now, right?? Well....did you file for seperation thru the courts or did you just seperate with no actual court involved?

If you went thru the courts: His bills do not matter or pertain to you because all debt incurred by him during a legal seperation is not your responsiblity and same goes for you to him.
If not: If you live in a comunal state, then it is also your responsibility because you guys were technically married during the time. I would definetely get a lawyer and try getting the divorce papers to make him responsible as to protect your credit. But if that doesn't happen, you are technically responsible for them if he chooses not to pay.

As for money, it will be ok. Just go down to the local social service dept. and file for assistance, they will help you there. I wish you luck.

Pay the bills that are in your name, ignore his hospital bill, its his issue, not yours. Contact a lawyer now. Good luck,

Get a lawyer. You cant handle this on your own. Your best bet would probably be to take out a loan that will cover your bills for a while and help you afford a good lawyer for a while. So the loan will probably have to be chunky. Your husband is very much responsible for half of everything at the least if not more. But you cant do this by yourself and get what you deserve. It will get hard a frustrating, but get the lawyer and they will help you through everything. Be strong and keep your head up.

check with your attorney, he should be able to give you some good advice, but generally, just take care of the things that you are responsible for, and leave the rest for him. just keep good records of everything, you will need it later probably.

just finish the divorce. he doesn't have to be there. worry about the hospital bills after the divorce is settled

Geez this fool is really no good! Are the bills in his name your name or both? Pay the bills that are in your name and take his no good butt to court and sue.Save everything!!!!! I cant give you that much legal advice as i am not a lawyer but i watch judge Alex on the regular. lol. This is no laughing matter, i would call your attorney and see what you can do legally. Sorry this Guy was such a loser!

I don't see how you can be held responsible for his hospital bill unless you signed something that pertains to it.He sounds like a big pile of %$@# for leaving you holding the bag that way.You are SO better off without this loser.You need to talk to an attorney.
