and it isn't that uncommon.
and it's not that big of a deal.
but how do kids split the holidays?

Your wrong, since your obviously aware of these things and asking questions, it is a big deal!
Divorce in and of itself can be good or bad for the adults. Sometimes even the kids benefit from a less stressful relationship. HOWEVER, that is a rare, rare, happening. More often than not the kids are treated as possessions not kids. I would simply ask your PARENTS together (not apart) how they intend to handle this and that you want a say in it as well. You have a right to see both parents and they have the same right too.
Always remember the divorce has nothing to do with you or your siblings. There is nothing you did or didn't do to cause this. |

I usually spend half the day with my mom's family, and the other half with my dad's family(on holidays)

Every situation is different. It will depend a lot on how well your parents get along AFTER they split. If they can agree on visitations then that is good, but in many cases a judge has to decide on visitation because the parents do not agree. |

My parents were never married but they did split after a while. me and my siblings usually spend the night before a holiday with my dad and then the holiday with my mother and our family except on Christmas then we don't see him at all but he has my siblings on new years. my dad left us so it's a little different but he was upset a little like any parent would be if they suddenly couldn't see their children everyday as they were a accustomed to. |
