My parents insist on delaying my marriage, what to do?

I am 24 now and will be turning 25 this September. I have a steady job, and I am doing my masters in Electrical Engineering. I love this girl and I want to get engaged to her, but my parents insist that I delay my marriage for God knows what reason. I am not in mood of marriage yet, but I do want to get engaged to her. I fear that if I delay, someone else might ask her before me. What must I do to convince my parents. Moreover, I'm having doubts that maybe my mom doesn't like her, thats why she wants me to delay.

Your mother is just being a mom. She is worried about you and is worried you will get hurt. But the fact is, you are old enough and perfectly capable to make your own decisions. You have to choose your own path in life and if you fall, you will just get back up again. I think it's perfectly okay to get engaged. After all, engagements can last as long as you want. Until you are both financially and emotionally ready. Most people get engaged for two years or more. Time enough to get their heads wrapped around it and plan the wedding. Do what you feel is best for you. It's your life, not your moms. Just talk to your mom and tell her that she has to let you go and you have to find your own way in this world. You'll be fine. And she'll probably warm up to your gf eventually.

You are 24 years old and an adult and can chose for yourself if you want to get engaged, it is none of your mums/parents business....as for getting married the same thing goes, however that is not what you are proposing to do as yet....................however as for getting the girl before someone else does....if someone else wants her and she wants them, being engaged or married will not stop that, so don't get engaged for those reasons.

Sounds like your parents are being controlling and just trying to get you to not marry her at all.

Don't let them run your life...if you want to, then that's all the matter.

You are old enough to do as you please, go ahead and get engaged. If your parents don't like it, too bad- you aren't their little baby to push around any more. Be a man!

As you say she may get fed up and let someone else do it
