I had a one night stand with a former coworker outside my marriage. She got pregnant and had a daughter. My wife was extremely upset and made me choose between her and my infant daughter. She said that she doesn't want to hear about my daughter or want me to have anything to do with my daughter or our marriage is over. I love my wife and don't want to lose her, but I also feel like a deadbeat for not being in my daughter's life (I don't have any children with my wife yet). I've visited my daughter behind my wife's back and I'm going to have to go to court for child support which is complicating things even more. I already know I messed-up and don't need the names and reprimands (got that big time from my wife and family). I just want your advice. Should I be a deadbeat out of guilt? (that's how I feel).

My wife will not talk about it. She flatly refuses. So talking to her won't work.
She said she won't divorce me if I have nothing to do with my daughter. I feel guilty, but I can't lose my wife. She means too much to me. I will pay child support, but I'm not going to sneak and see my daughter anymore.

I'm sorry, but your daughter should not suffer because you didn't keep it in your pants. Your wife needs to grow up too and realize that just because she closes her eyes, that it isn't there. She needs to go to therapy to learn to deal with the situation. |

The child will want to know you...And this child is YOURS. She needs you....
I say...go and see her. Be a part of her life. If your wife leaves you...which she may already, because you cheated...then let her go.
Can you imagine...how sad this little girl is going to be...knowing her Dad DIDN'T WANT HER. It's going to effect every part of her life you know...

Those who say is isn't the child's fault are correct.
Now it is up to you to stand up and do the best with the situation at hand. Tell your wife that it is what it is. You screwed up and now there are consequences. They are not avoidable. You now have a child you must take care of. Sorry, but if your wife can't see this, then no matter what you choose now, your marriage is going to end over this issue. |

I do not know how old this is but I want to say something here..
In this situation your daughter is the MOST important thing. You screwed up, it is now water under the bridge and you and your wife must move on civily with or without eachother. Forgive yourself, regardless of what your wife, or any of the femminists on here think. Forgive yourself, do not repeat your mistakes, and take care of your daughter. |
