Need help with medical bills of my ex-wife?

i got divorced a little over a year and a half ago and in my divorce papers it states that my ex is to be responsible for all of her medical bills. i am now being taken to court for those bills and was told that i was still responsible for the but i could turn around and sue her for whatever im out to take care of her bills is that true or is there any way to get out of paying them and get the collection agency to go after her and leave me alone and is there any way to get them off my credit report

u may need the advice of an attorney, but if the judge said she was responsible for her own medical bills u need to tell the bill collectors, they always try to get the ex spouse for the bills even after the divorce. |

Speak with an attny. A consultation fee is usually minimal, and worth every penny! If the divorce decree states you're not liable, then what's the point of the decree? Perhaps your divorce isn't legal either. Sounds ridiculous to me. |

Go back to your divorce lawyer and have he or she write a certified letter to this collection agency. It's against the law for them to harrass you. You can sue them. |

Find a nice lawyer, try and get a copy of the divorce papers you had that stated you ex is responsible for medical bills. Show these papers to the lawyer and the lawyer should be able to get the bills off your chest. |

Is she putting these bills in your name without your consent? That's the only way I can think of that creditors would have your name as a responsible party for her medical bills. I agree that you need legal representation, you also need to contact the creditors and request copies of all documents proving that you are the responsible party for the bills. You might also inform the creditors, next time they call, that it is illegal to incur debt in another person's name without their consent. Ask them to prove to you that you consented to the debt, then threaten a lawsuit. That might speed things up a bit. No one wants to be sued in the medical profession. You also need to file suit against your ex wife and perhaps a counter suit against the creditors. Unfortunately, this is going to take a while to clear off of your credit, but it CAN be done - hang in there! |
