Obtaining a marriage certificate?

My boyfriend and I are planning to get marry soon and is yet to get our marriage license. After that we're not planning to have a big cermony yet due to the fact that he's an active military personnel. Can we just have a small legal ceremony in our local city hall? What is the price and how long will it take for them to send us our certificate after that?
By the way, we live in Missouri.

you can go to your local court house and get a certificate that day. my sister and brother in law were in your situation they got married on a friday as he was moving from one station to another... just go to the court house and get one you can call and find out how much it is before you go down there then go get married at city hall... congrats!!
