Parents, do you have a favorite child?

No, Dom, I don't.

Oh, I might feel closer to one child over the others from time to time, depending on what's going on and what we're doing, but I love all five of my kids equally. They're each very different from each other, and each is admirable and remarkable in a very unique set of ways. If I was going on a long, tough hiking trip, I'd probably prefer my elder two boys to join me. They're strong and tough enough to make the trip without whining or slowing us down, and they're pretty good company. If I was going to spend a quiet afternoon birdwatching or something, I would probably want my youngest daughter along. She is very observant, loves animals, and has good eyesight. Additionally, she's very patient and loves to snuggle with her old Pa. If I was going to a concert, I'd surely invite my eldest daughter and youngest son along. Both know more about music than I ever will, and my eldest daughter is vivacious and never runs out of energy, while my youngest boy is a poet at heart, and likes to discus the imagry with me.

See? I love them all, but would prefer to spend time with one over the others in certain situations. Also, my own emotional state at the moment might cause me to prefer one over the others. Or a recent disagreement or grounding or whatever, might cause me to behave somewhat cooler towards one or the other of them. But I would quite literally kill or die for any of my children, and I would (less dramatically, perhaps) give a kidney or a lung or an eye to any of them.

Yes, I do, I am sorry to admit.

Before my eldest became a teenager, and grew a horrific attitude, I did not. It used to be that I would hug her and think, but not say, "You're my favorite daughter." (I have only 2 daughters.) And then I would hug her little sister and think and also not say, "You're my favorite daughter." And somehow both were somehow magically true in my mind. Unfortunately, though, I don't really like my 16 year old right now, but that is a long and ugly story.

Im a Mother and I can tell you that its impossible to have a "favorite" child. You can get along better with one, you can "protect" other, you can laugh louder with another.....simply because THEY ARE DIFFERENT , simply because they are human beings. As for loving....I LOVE both equally, same amount of love.

I do not have a favorite, but I do get along better with one of them. I love them both equally however differently. You cannot love them the same because they are not the same people. My oldest has a personality much like mine so we tend to flock together - it does not mean that he is my favorite...whereas my youngest tends to flock with my husband - it does not mean that he is his favorite.
