Should husband get vasectomy?
|
My husband and I are done having children (we are both 36). I think he should get a vasectomy because it is cheaper and easier than tubal ligation. However, my husband is being a totally wimp and saying it will feel like someone kicked him in the nuts. Is it really that painful or he just being a baby? How do I convince him to do it?

Had the procedure about two years ago. Yeah, it hurts, but its not that big a deal. Put it this way, I hurt worse after almost every single rugby game I ever played in than I did after the surgery. And I was given pain meds if I needed them. I took the prescribed pills as instructed right after the surgery, then a half dose that evening, just in case. Never took another pill for the pain. It wasn't that bad. A little sensitive for a few days. That's it.
Tell your hubby to quit being a wimp and take care of business. |

I am a strong believer in spouse's making their own decisions when it comes to their body. If my husband did not want to get a vasectomy, who am I to make him. There are other options to prevent you two from getting pregnant again. Condoms, birth control, the patch. Talk to your doctor about other options. If he doesn't want to get one because of any reason besides pain, then you can't really make him. Why dont you both sit down and discuss every option, the pros and cons and then come to a decision you are both comfortable with. If a vasectomy is decided, it shouldn't take long, nor be overly painful. And if it is, I'm sure he can get something for the pain. |

A vasectomy is a simple outpatient procedure done in the doctors office under local sedation (freezing). An ice pack for a day or two is all that is required for a full recovery.
A tubal ligation is an invasive medical procedure that requires general sedation and multiple sites of entry through the woman's abdominal wall. Recovery can take up to 2 weeks.
Your husband needs to put his macho aside and recognise that it is selfish to want you to endure what is a considerably more painful, invasive procedure. What kind of person would push their spouse to have a major surgery when a minor procedure for them would have the same result? |

It is painful, but not to the degree of getting kicked in the nuts. I would call it more like bad discomfort. Like a bad headache. But it usually starts to subside after a day or so. He'll have to take it easy and not do anything too strenuous for 3 or 4 days. After that, it's just bruising. |

You know what, he has every reason to be afraid. I am a woman but I know that my husband said that it was the most frightening thing he has ever done because they don't know what to expect. Usually, from what I understand, is that the guy realizes later that it isn't all that bad after all.
The deal with a Tubal, you risk far more chance for infection. Also, they have to put you out which increases the risk. For a man, it's out patient surgery, they numb him up, cut and sew and then he gets to go home and put a bag of frozen peas on it until he feels better. Some men have been up and ready to fool around within days!
Makes much more sense to me to lower the risk of death in place of a little pain. He should step up and be a man, you gave birth to you kids after all and then you have menopause to look forward to. don't you think you have done your part?
Good luck |

When I worked for a Urology practice, our vasectomy patients didn't complain much about pain. The doc would use lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and he would write a prescription that said the man was to rest for the weekend and keep a bag of frozen peas on the site and have your wife wait on you hand and foot. So if you bribe him with something good, he may change his mind. |

He would have no problems getting a vasectomy. My ex husband got one yrs. ago, I'm sure they're even done "easier" today than back 30 yrs. ago! But he wasn't the "bravest" male either. He didn't complain of any pain or anything that unusual when he got his. I don't think it's as bad as your husband would imagine. I'm sure he's talked to your Dr. about this, of not, then he should, it just could put his mind more at ease. Maybe the Dr. would even have someone who would be willing for him to talk to who had this done. It IS an easy procedure tho. I split up from this husband, I had my tubes tied & went thru MORE than he did with his vasectomy. I also have a very high pain level, but the Dr. ran into complications & I was down & out for a couple wks. after. He was up & about in just a couple days, just needed an ice pack the first day. Tell him it's sure worth the peace of mind!...best to you...:) |

He is being a wimp. It is a little sore for a few hours.....a little ice and rest, then he will be fine. |

Of course it hurts, but the recovery time is sooo much better! They can do them on a Friday and you'll be back to work with little to no pain by Monday.
My husband is actually taking one for the team - he's getting one instead of me having to go through surgery again. |

My husband had thankfully told me HE will be the one getting snipped once we are done having children.
He explained that a tubal ligation changes the mood and temperment of a woman even if he is told otherwise, he believes that to be true because he has seen several older women in his life become nasty and bitter with more frequent mood swings after getting their "tubes tied"...
Besides, it DOES cost less, and is less invasive for a man PLUS it is also more successfully reversible if the two of you change your minds later on down the line...
Hope these points help you... |

convince him by having another baby!!!
know when your fertal and hump him.
Sooner or later he will get sick of having babies.! lol
I really don't know you can't make him do it he should want to for the both of you.
before I got married my husband and i talked about this What happens if we don't want more kids he said he would get snipped. not only is it reversable it's in and out .. unlike a women who will be in the hostpital for a day or two. he sees the benifits of it. and is a strong man and can handle a little pain. tho I odn't know how painful it is. i'm great ful he brought it up! |

Hey,
It does scare guys....makes them think of having their testicals cut off.
Your job to convinve him he will still be the same man he ever was...just a safer one.
So start by telling him you want a 'taste test'. You'll do a few before...and then after. If he doesn't do the V you don't do the after.
