Hi, I need advice. I'm stuck in a bad living situation. I'm a full-time, 20- year-old student who is living with her parents. My dad was extremely abusive to me as a child and even broke my arm once. My mother always turned a blind eye. When I turned 18 I planned on moving out and never looking back but then I realized I'd never make it on my own. I've tried several times to find a job but no one will hire me with just my high school diploma and no experience. I am in the process of getting my bachelors to make that better but the abuse at home is getting to a critical point. I can't call the cops because I'm now an adult and my dad would kick me out. Mom is no help. My parents moved me away from all my family and friends when I turned 17. I've been isolated since. I've become severely dependent on my father. I think he did it on purpose. I'm scared to stay but I'm also scared to leave. If I left, I'd have no where to go and no form of self support. I keep telling myself to wait it out and find a job after getting my bachelors to save up enough to get away but I feel like its just procrastinating. I feel like I'm never gonna get away.That I'll never be free. What can I do to get myself out of this house sooner than graduation?

I know this is a strange solution. Have you ever thought about enlisting? Don't tell them until after you leave. I think Air Force is the best/easiest. You can finish your degree while in the military. I have a few friends who enlisted because of bad situations at home and they have prospered because of it. It is a scary thought, but go talk to a recruiter and they might have a solution for you. It will get you out and that is what you need right now. Get out as soon as possible. |

Your dad needs to go to jail, and get raped in the *** by some inmates. Have you tried waitressing, does your school offer dorms of some sort? Maybe student housing? |

Call some family and see if you can move in with them. Transfer to a different school by them. Stay with them just until you can save enough to rent a room from someone. Work and go to school and distance yourself until you can move on enough to handle it. |

Your bachelors can wait until you get out on your own and can support yourself.
You can still call the police even if you are 20 - it's called DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. He'll be arrested, you can file charges(which you couldn't as a minor) but he would probably only get probation since this is the first time he's been charged. If he had been charged before, he might get jail time, but..since your mom's a wimp and you're folllowing your mom......
GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!!! Your education can wait until you get out of there. |

You don't have a college friend who would like to be a roommate with you? See if you can find a trusted friend to split the rent. Or do they have dorm rooms on campus? Sign up for financial aid and they can help with the dorm fees. |
