I think as far as arranged marriages are concern, we often give it a face of our culture or if not that, then parents do not consider their kids to be grown up enough so they could find their own partner.
I know I am blocked by a LOT of Indians but the rest can gladly answer.

The Indian mariage worked for average boys and girs struggling to survive. And for joarders to pass on their wealth and shos to someone.
It also shows off the cultur or its aberration.
A smart beautiful/handsome can find their own mates. What about the less fortunate?

How can an arranged marriage be a meeting of two souls? It's a contract, nothing more, nothing less, it is never about the two individuals involved, as, how could it be? They don't even know each other..... Most Indian people swear by it, but those are ones that do not have an opinion on anything and they cannot think for themselves. Those who are against it have frequently looked into the eyes of those poor hapless miserable people who have been drafted into such a contract. It should be banned and outlawed. And parents need to have a rethink as well... many a nasty parent has married their kid off to some horrible stranger, and because it's too painful to part (keeping up the facade of being happy) they stay together in misery and just bear it, yes, another case of "toda sa adjust kar lena, beta". The Indian way, adjust adjust adjust, and DON'T speak up or have your own opinion either.... |
