The person that initiates the divorce is ahead of the game mentally. If you don't have custody you will soon learn that your ex begins playing games with you. Keeping the kids from you and nagging about every little thing. This will not get better, it only gets worse. For some reason they will think the non custodial parent is flush with money. For some reason they think they should be being paid to raise their own kids, and have you stay out of their upbringing. |

Probably... Everyone's feelings are different after a divorce or break up but I'm assuming the person with the children's custody is probably too consumed with the children's well being, care and everyday life to be dealing with the dating scene right away.. Perhaps they are a little worried about bringing a strange man/woman to their lives right away |

True only because it's USUALLY the man who leaves, and USUALLY the woman who gets custody. In my case, I left and I have custody so I'm moving on faster and I have the kids. And when I say I'm moving on I mean I'm not heart broken over it, not dating yet but not a mess. I'm more heart broken over hoe it's hurting my kids. |

??? I would think that the person without custody may have the freedom to do more socializing but may carry some sort of seperation-from-the-children anxiety. So mentally the person may not be able to move on. He/she may express it through the social scene has some sort of distraction |

Who carres about the adults. Anyone think about the children? They have no say in this and have to get over things. IF they are with mom ..ok...if it is dad..ok they have no say. |

I, Myself, put my mother through a huge battle four years ago. now that im grown and understand my actions it wasnt right for me to choose, my mother had to undergo several surgaries due to stress related problems. and she is still fighting it today. so no the person with out custody doesnt move on faster. they have the same responiblities. They find some one else they have to tell them, just like you, "oh by the way i have a kid/children" |

I guess there is no real answer here - except it depends on the person - I took custody of my two kids and I feel I am more successful and outgoing then their single father -
I sometimesthink why he is not going back to school or taking advantage of his free time -
