so i took a break from my controlling partner and decided i need some ME time, while she promised to work on her issues. tonight my new friends want to take me out. Should i let her know that i'm going out tonight? to prove to her that i am making my own progress? testing the water etc....

Why would you do that? Sounds like you are tempted more to stir things up than to show her progress...Dont do that, she is not your mom and you dont need to tell her every move you make. If she is controlling, that goes hand in hand with jealousy, but I bet you already knew that....If you are absolutely deciding to tell her you're going out, dont make it sound like you are going out despite her. Just tell her that you are going out for a little while with some friends and hope that she has a good night too. I still dont suggest telling her. Its none of her business really, and if you make it her business, then anything that happens you will pay the price for. |

No. Is there another reason you want to tell her? Make her jealous, maybe? Tell her only if it comes up, and then expect her to be angry. She's controlling, you say, and you're not under her thumb anymore, so be prepared for some fireworks. |
