You can have physical affairs and emotional affairs. An affair is having any sort of romantic contact/feelings/thoughts with someone other than your partner.

I'd say an affair is an ongoing thing, when your partner actively starts another relationship with someone else. A kiss is just cheating i wouldn't call it an affair.

Your sister is hopelessly misinformed. A person can have an emotional affair without physical contact. If a person pulls away from their partner, or would say something to the target of the relationship that they wouldn't say to that person in front of their partner, it's an affair.

to me it would be any sort of intimacy,to me kissing is intimate so that wouldnt be acceptable.

Doing intimate things normally reserved for a couple. Basically, anything your partner wouldn't approve of if they knew about it is considered cheating. It doesn't matter how YOU perceive it...it matters how your partner perceives it.

there is such a thing as an emotional affair. it preludes a physical affair, but it builds all the foundations for a physical affair to happen.

basically, i believe that if you are secretly confiding in someone outside of your marriage; if you are deceiving your spouse/partner about the 'friendship' and if you are revealing personal and/or intimate thoughts to the third person - then you are engaging in an emotional affair.

by doing the above you are denying your spouse/partner a chance of honesty, and you are hiding aspects of your life that affect them. any resentments or difficulties become hidden and worsen, because you end up justifying (rightly or wrongly) your complaints to someone who will only reinforce your feelings.

to me its any kind of relationship that you dont want your mate to know about. i know it may sound a little out there, but i even believe in emotional cheating. online relationships are a big problem because thats where the emotional cheating usually comes into play.

I say if two people are sneaking around to see each other and you both feel bad and it is an emotional affair then that is cheating. Of course physical contact is cheating but it starts before that happens usually.

AN affair is doing some thing you would'nt do , if your partner was watching, so the question is,Would you kiss an other person in front of your partner, yes i would because it wouldn't bother him (or her) or no because that would up set him and would cause trouble.

I think even kissing someone would be classed as affair, after all kissing is really personal. A lot of people have physical contact but find kissing hard to do whilst doing this

An affair is cheating, and cheating would be doing anything intimate with someone who isn`t your partner. It could be something to seemingly innocent, but if it`s intimate because of who you`re with, it`s wrong. Like cuddling, if you`re being intimate, it`s wrong... but if you`re just comforting each other or whatever, it isn`t wrong. It depends.
