What do you think about marriage?

What do you think about marriage?

Do you think marriage takes a lifetime of work? My husband thinks it shouldn't. Should we just sit back and see what happens? That's what my husband thinks a marriage is. What do you think?

I married my long time boyfriend. Relationships are often romantic in the beginning, but as time passes and couples become distracted by other things—work, children, bills, the house—they often take each other for granted.

Despite that we knew other for 6 years our marriage still takes hard work, a commitment to set out on the journey together and the conviction that the union is worth preserving.

Sometimes you need to wait it out, sometimes you need to talk it out and sometimes you have to stop analyzing it all the time and just work it. Happily married couples will tell you that keeping a marriage intact takes discipline, and that they exercise it because they’re in it for the long haul.

Good Luck

some wise man (or could be a woman) said once, when you love what you do, you won't have to work a day in your life.

when you love each other, and being married to each other, you won't have to spend a minute working on your marriage.

i think marriage with everything good it has still hard its like the millionaire always says its not hard to get the 1st million as much as it is to make it two or at least keep it a million. so is marriage needs work lot of work and understanding to keep it on and well. think twice ;-)

I like K J 's answer. I've been with my husband for over 35 years. Married over 32 years. We have never had to work at our marriage. We have the same interests, and do everything together. He's my best friend.

NEVER AGAIN, EVER

I think a religious or civil union like "marriage" is a perfect for couples who want to have children. For the rest of us, it really comes down to personal preference.

I've been married for almost 20 years. We don't have kids. In fact, we never planned on having children. I'm not religious and even though I knew I wanted to be with the woman I married for the rest of my life, marriage had no significance for me. However, my wife was raised with a religious tradition. I knew it was an important concept for her, so that was enough for me to want to be "married".

Are you planning on having children? If so, I hope you'll both think about this in terms of what's best for them (not you).

Good luck!

My parents have been married for 28 years now. I've seen them have times where things go smoothly and everything is perfect and easy...and times when it's been rough and they had to struggle to keep it together. 28 years of this and right now, i have NEVER seen a happier couple before in my life. Yes, they have disagreements...yes, they argue but not often at all. But, like my mother has always told me, any couple who never argues or disagrees...means a lot of opinions and feelings are being hidden and not talked about. Communication, trust, and dedication are the key aspects to any relationship..not just marriage.

That being said, my boyfriend and I have both chosen to not be married. We both believe you don't need a piece of paper to tell us and everyone else that we want to spend our lives together. A marriage should not be viewed as "work"..but perhaps more appropriately...it should be a challenge. It's a challenge to be happy with one person for the rest of your life. It's a challenge to love them through the best and worst of times. If one of you were to become permanently disfigured or paralyzed, etc...you can't just sit back and let that take care of itself...it becomes a true test and effort and a challenge of love and faith in each other.

Marriage is a great deal of compromise and it probably should not be viewed as work per-say! However a great deal of honest and open communication, compromise. A constant view of actions through your mates eyes, necessary so feelings are not hurt or steeped upon.

I think marriage does take work. No one is perfect and sometimes it can be challenging to get along. Spouses need to be observant and ready to defend their commitment. Not everyone respects the institution of marriage. People may try to compete with a spouse or have an affair. Many people have the attitude that a relationship or marriage is disposable.

Marriage gives stability and security to a relationship and family. My parents have been faithfully married for over 30 years. It gave me a lot of peace as a child knowing my parents are married. I have never been married and I don't have children. I believe that marriage is a lifetime commitment unless someone is being abused. If someone is being abused they should get divorced.

I am married but I really don't think marriage is necessary.
It does take work. If you are always trying to work on your marriage then some thing is wrong. People don't always want to talk about their marriage.
Marriage does take work, but you have to have fun too.

Marriage is work! If you want a relationship to last you have to work at it. Problems don't always fix themselves. If more people realized that marriage is hard perhaps divorce rates wouldn't be so high.

Marriage is just another word for "Legal Couple"
To me it doesn't mean much
Sure it is nice to have your partners name and go throught the whole hoo ha of being proposed to and having a ceremony and all that but I think in order for any relationship to work there needs to be love, trust and happiness - a marriage certificate does not provide those 3 things.
If you feel like you are "working" to keep your marriage happy than you are with the wrong person obviously

any relationship requires work, married or not... it doesn't say how long you've been married but i would guess not long. life will run its course, the real work comes in the rocky times... neither of you can 'sit back' then
