Open relationships are a can of worms all the way around. They show a lack of respect for your partner, for starters. Secondly, they up the risk of contracting STDs. And how would one define cheating in a situation like that? In the above marriage, he obviously wants monogamy, but she doesn't- and who is to say her take on the situation is indeed the truth? Perhaps he isn't turned on by the fact that she is sleeping around. He needs to find someone who will remain devoted to him and him alone.

I think what ever works for that couple. in this case it didnt' he changed his mind you have to be careful of that.

but some couples have open marriages and some understand others will all they ask is that they stay discreet as not to embarrasse them.

Others have needs that one of the partners may not be into or interested in fullfilling that part of the marriage yet they get along every other way and have no interest in disturbing or breaking up there marriage.

SO you can't really say one way is right for others. I think that will be up to the couple themselves

It's not open if one or both people aren't ok with it. And, IMO, it causes problems if only one does it, but the other one doesn't. Ugh, sounds kinda complicated.

She and he both are living a lie! What is the point of having a marriage if its "open" Duh! Its not right either way. What part of "I do" don't they understand?

well, it obviously doesn't work for him now. i think open marriages aren't true comittments, and if you love someone enough to marry them, you shouldn't need to sleep with other people.

It needs to be mutually agreed. He's not agreeing so she should respect her husband's wishes and stop. That is if she loves him and wants to stay married to him.

Well this is a sticky situation! It was his idea,but he never slept with other women? It just turned him on to think of her sleeping with other men? Or did he actually watch. Seems to me like the best thing for your friend to do is to stop sleeping with other men. Unlike some people I do not think bad of her. There are lots of women who sleep with other women and their man to make him happy. Or because they think it is something they might enjoy also but then it turns out that they really cant stand doing it because Fantasy is one thing but the reality of watching your man/woman with someone else is something different altogeather! At first it might have been ok for him and her in this situation but now it seems that he can't cope with it so...if she loves him she will stop..if not she should file papers and move on..

it never works out that way-someone always gets hurt.

my sister said their marriage was this like this and they were so happy, now 2 years later they are divorcing and the kids are a train wreck.
