What is a legal marriage anyway?

Jefferson and all those guys didn't concern themselves with marriage. How about marriage be between two people and not two people and their government. Instead of legalizing gay marriage how about the government not recognize ANY marriage. It's none of their business anyway. This will eliminate the "marriage tax" and the social security problems in one swoop.
