What is the difference between love and marriage?

I know this question may sound cliche..so please do not tell me 'what love is' or how great it can be because everyone knows more or less. But focus on the difference between marriage and love, and maybe more so on marriage than love if you'd like. Thanks a lot! I'm going to be married to a guy who doesn not want to comprimise me for his 'potencial career' just for a year given that year is going to be crucial for me...I'm really getting confused about marriage/love thing. P.S my fiancee enjoys solitude a lot, and that he sometimes wonder why he gets married, then he'll persuade himself by saying 'I dont want to die alone'. (here you go that's the reason he wants me to marry him)

Hope this story HELPS a lot to you, it's hard for me to explain that's why I make it a story

A student asks a teacher, "What is love?"

The teacher said, "in order to answer your question, go to the wheat field and choose the biggest wheat and come back.

But the rule is: you can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the field, go thru first row, he saw one big wheat, but he wonders... may be there is a bigger one later.

Then he saw another bigger one... But may be there is an even bigger one waiting for him.

Later, when he finished more than half of the wheat field, he start to realize that the wheat is not as big as the previous one he saw, he know he has missed the biggest one, and he regretted.

So, he ended up went back to the teacher with empty hand.

The teacher told him, "this is love... You keep looking for a better one, but when later you realise, you have already miss the person..."

"What is marriage then?" the student asked.

The teacher said, "in order to answer your question, go to the corn field and choose the biggest corn and come back. But the rule is: you can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the corn field, this time he is careful not to repeat the previous mistake, when he reach the middle of the field, he has picked one medium corn that he feel satisfy, and come back to the teacher.
The teacher told him, "This time you bring back a corn. You look for one that is just nice, and you have faith and believe this is the best one you get... This is marriage."

I began to write, tongue-in-cheek, that love has no strings attached while marriage does. But that's not true. People who love each other willingly accept the attachments that come.

Marriage does not necessarily require love, but it is, by definition, a strings-attached deal. People who love each other often decide to make a statement of commitment - they get married. This commitment is designed to promise that they will never stop loving each other. In practice, while some people do embark on terrific lives of mutual love, marriage often means only that people go through the motions of love. After that point, marriage is strictly about commitment. It drastically changes the consequences of splitting from your partner.

marriage is suicide and love is the way to suicide..don't feel bad I was just kidding. Love is when you devote your soul to somebody else and he /she does the same thing. Marriage is the stage when lovers are bonded legally. Marriage can be arranged also but true husband and wives love each other truly. Don't try to measure his love. If you love him and you have seen something like true love in his eyes for you then marry him otherwise your mind is free to choose it. Best OF Luck and if you marry him then congrats in advance.

Getting married should be like saying 'there is nobody else in the whole World I would rather spend my life with' it's a commitment to someone. It must be built on trust and love or it will not work. It's a decison that usually leads into buying a house/starting a family etc. It should be done out of love and true love and not for the reasons your man is giving you. I would be very careful and if you believe that's his reason then there is someone else out there for you. I do hope that he changes his ways and realises the real reaons he wants to marry you.

Marriage is something any two people can do and for any reason, you don't have to be in love for marriage, you just have to have a piece of paper that is signed and you are married. No love has to be involved at all. That's simple. Love is harder and I bet you even got it wrong, for so many people do and that is the reason why we have such a high divorce rate. Love is the wanting to be with someone for the rest of your life, not because something happened between the sheets, but because of all the things that happen before the sheets. A lot of couples wouldn't be if it wasn't for what went on between the sheets and that is the wrong reason to get married all together. It's about enjoying life together, finding the same things enjoyable and supporting each other through whatever comes your way. If someone doesn't want to die alone let him get himself a dog. The dog will get more attention than you will and wont' feel trapped by being somewhere you don't want to be and with someone who is slowly draining the life out of you by not having any life of his own.

In my opinion, marriage is different than love because you are making a choice to spend the rest of your life with your spouse. Love can fade away, and you and your partner may drift apart and move on, but a marriage is a conscious choice to make a life together and to be a team no matter what happens. There are many people who see marriage as a temporary thing "I love him but am no longer in love with him" is a pretty weak reason, for example, to get a divorce. Married love is an active choice that you make, and you sometimes have to work at loving your spouse. Depending on where you are in your marriage, at times it is not easy.

LOVE can go on without marriage. Marriage cannot go on without LOVE.

He's SO not ready to get married!

Back to your question...
There's a huge difference btwn love and marriage. It's easier to love pre-marriage b/c your love has never truly been tested and pushed to the limits. There's an easy way out until you're married. Just b/c someone makes a great b/f doesn't mean they'll make a good husband. Love is much easier than marriage. Marriage requires responsibility and sacrifice--two things love does not. There aren't always butterflies, but if you act as a team instead of blaming each other when times get rough, the pay off is much better with marriage.

Marriage is love plus huge responsibility and struggle.

hmmm>>>
1. DIFFERENCE: marriage involves RESPONSIBILITY, which is as big as its name.. LOVE does not have that much and thats why sustains ups and downs...
2. u told about ur fiancee is not marrying u for the sake of LOVE>> it likes being alone but cares about what people would say IF A GIRL IS NOT BY HIS SIDE~~~ this marriage could be difficult for u being a girl.. who is ever so emotional.. n he seems emotionless towards u AS I READ ABOVE>>> kindly make sure their is enough love to overcome responsibilities after marriage>>>
IT CAN GET DIFFICULT.. u still have time..~~~
