Do the right thing and give it back. It was given to you with the hopes that the two of you would be married or stay married. It's not really a gift. If he refuses to take it, then it is yours to do whatever you want.

at the very least you should offer to return it . it was accepted by you on the agreement that you would remain with him until death you did not do that. so you should offer it back. he may say keep it in which case you should pass it on to one of your children if you have one . if not then pass it on to one of his blood relatives .
failing that sell it and give the money to the poor .

Have it appraised. If it's worth anything, put it in a safe deposit box and forget about it. If you ever want to reuse it as a wedding band for your daughter or son, there it is; it will definitely appreciate in value if it has any today, so you can also use it as a down payment or an enrollment fee for a child in college, etc. Don't let it go to waste!

If you have had a child with your ex husband, I would keep the ring for that child, or sell it and take the money and invest it into their college education. If you had no children, offer it back to your ex. If he does not want it, get it appraised, and sell it.
