What would you do if your fatherinlaw told you he didnt like you and never did, to your face?

I tell him that no matter what, "I still love you, you are my family".
Be the better "man". And kill 'em with kindness. He will be the one to answer to God for his behavior. That way you can walk away knowing that you did everything you could to build a relationship with him and the family. Or you could tell him....."it's your loss".

I'd say "thanks for your honesty...we'll just be civil to one another then" and go about my business...especially if I'd never done anything to cause such a reaction.

Guess I'd be spending less time around the in-laws after that also.

honestly..i would be mad and sad, and would want to know what i did to make him not like me.. but i really wouldn't care because it doesn't matter what he thinks of me..what anyone thinks of me for that matter..only what my boyfriend/husband thought, hes the one with me so his opinion is the one that matters.

Seriously, what would he expect?? If he never liked you, then he probably has some sort of emotional disorder, and asking him why would probably just get you some crazy answer. If he was an adult and did not like his son-in-law or daughter-in-law then he would just keep his distance and have some respect for his own kid...if not chalk it up to childishness and a strong desire to stir in the pot.

Nothing. Listen it may make it harder since he is your husbands father and he will be around. but you donâ€™t have to like him, he doesnâ€™t have to like you and you donâ€™t really have to have any close relationship with him you just have to be civil to each other when your family has get togethers. not everyone that meets you in life is going to like you, some people just donâ€™t click, just like im sure that you arenâ€™t going to like everyone you meet.
