When spouses have been betrayed by INFIDELITY why is it significant they list the years married on this Q&A?

Calendar years married does not necessarily mean a good solid marriage.

In my opinion the longer I've been married the more respect I would required and deserve.

If you have been betrayed by infidelity it would be wise to consider:
It's not the QUANTITY of the marriage it's the QUALITY of the marriage!

I think people state the number of years married because if they are dealing with a cheating spouse, they are already doubting the quality of their marriage. It's hard to see past the hurt and anger to see the good qualities at a time like that.

It's far different being betrayed by infidelity a couple of years into a relationship rather than 20 + years. Just think how many more ups and owns and marriage experiences you have in 20 years as opposed to a couple of years.

I think what most people are trying to get across when they list the years they have been married is that they have had lots of experience of what marriage is like. We can all stay happily in love and in lust for at least 10 years or so (I would hope) - things get a little trickier around 20!

Quantity matters also because if a person is a good spouse for many years and screws up once that's far different from a person who is a liar and deadbeat from the start.

Which Bond is it you like? The new one? The one who only is attracted to married women? Tsk. tsk. Some people.

You're right though, without quality what's the point in continuing. In that case the cheating becomes a convenient exit excuse.

Because sometimes the years are relevant...like people ask about it...or it's to prove that after 20 years or whatever people can still cheat...even if the quality is different, you won't know that, and there is a lot to be said about just plain old experience in time. I really don't get the issue here, sorry.
