a marriage is a legal contract. period. it has nothing to do with religion unless the couple chooses to involve religion by having the wedding in a church or referencing it in their vows.

people fear what they don't know or understand. but the whole "sanctity of marriage" BS has got to go NOTHING anybody else does threatens my marriage. everybody should have the same rights....to marriage and divorce.

people as a whole are just afraid, period. most people who stick to the bible don't actually read the bible, or aren't smart enough to understand the meaning or the purpose of what they're reading. they just want to belong to something and find any way to quench their fears about life, death and being a confused person. so they'll hate anything they think they should.

funniest part is that they can't really come up with a good reason.

To be honest I believe most people are not. The reason it is such an issue is that depending on which party you belong to it gets you voes. Also I believe that since a lot of people don't know a gay person they really do not understand that is no big deal, or they blindly follow their church. I am straight but one of my very good friends is gay as well as several other gay friends and they are no diff rent. As you know most people have one or more friends that are gay and like them a lot they just don't know they are gay.

All it takes is a small handful of hateful people starting propaganda about gay marriage ruining the sanctity of marriage, or their children would grow up wrong, or the bible says it's wrong. or... probably a lot of other arguments that I don't listen to because they give me a headache. But bring 'em on and I'll bust 'em down.

One - ruining the sanctity of marriage my a**. People were doing that long before by marrying for money or power, or marrying and divorcing so often that it makes my head spin, by coming up with and allowing arranged marriages, marriages of convenience, no matter how loveless they are. Then of course there's the whole thing where 'blue bloods' would marry inside their own family. That used to be acceptable and even thought highly of.

Two - their children grow up wrong. Uh-huh... yeah, and all the bullies, murderers, rapists, terrorists, etc in the world... all their parents are gay, right?... Enough on that topic. (If you say yes, you're a moron, and I refuse to accept that you're even on the same mental wavelength as a competent human being.)

Three - the bible says it's wrong. Okay. What about other things the bible says that used to be part of Christian life, but has now disappeared because it no longer makes sense in modern society? Do churches prohibit women who recently bore children from entering their churches? For a boy, 33 days, for a girl 66 days? (Leviticus 12:3-5) A sin to eat swine? (Leviticus 11:7) No eating lobster or crab or shrimp. (Leviticus 11:12) Did you know that according to the bible, you're considered unclean if you come into the slightest contact with a woman on her period? Even coming into contact with an object she was in contact with? (Leviticus 15:19-23) Shouldn't cross-breed plants and animals, or wear a garment made of more than one material? (Leviticus 19:19). No rare steak. (Leviticus 19:26) No tattoos. (Leviticus 19:28) No cutting your hair or beard. (Leviticus 19:27) You should be put to death for cursing your mother or father. (Leviticus 20:9) Put to death for adultery. (Leviticus 20:10) Think it's all in Leviticus? According to Exodus 35:2, anyone who works on the Sabbath should be put to death. So better hope your house doesn't start burning on a Sunday. Those firemen would have to be put to death.

I have lots more. But the point is, why do people think they can get away with throwing Leviticus 18:22 (Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind) around as an excuse to prevent gay marriage when they go against so many other things in the bible?

Sorry, I got into a rant mode. But sadly, there will probably always be people who think like this. Same as there are still some people who think all women should be made to stay at home to raise the kids and make the man happy. A lot of people are sadly led blindly into the kinds of fears that someone can make prey on their worst fears. Luckily, we've shown that in time, these kinds of arguments break down over time. That's being shown by the fact we now have four states that I know who recognize gay marriage: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa, and Vermont. California keeps bouncing around... It's happening faster and faster. Massachusetts was 2003. Connecticut was 2008. Vermont and Iowa are both happening in 2009. I'd say fear is starting to lose.

gay people have a right to misarble to dang it! Jus kiddin! I was very upset when they turned over the gay marriage prop and all my friends who spent money on there marriage certs had there certs dissolved. this is just another example of how the seperation of church and state will never happen as long as we have crazy bible thumpers in this world.

I'm not gay but I don't see why people think they should control who other people love.. It is THEIR life let them do whatever they feel like with whoever they feel like. This is America where's the freedom to do this? That's about as bad as racism...

Also who gives a damn what the bible says? people are free to practice whatever religion they want already in America so why try to go by one Religions standard?

I hate how people think they have the rights to control other people's rights to marry! So full of sh*t. I think people should have the right to spend the rest of their lives with whomever they choose!!!
The only excuse I can think of for those pathetic souls protesting against gay marriage is they are bored with their own lives and need a hobby.

I'm not anti-gay marriage at all. In my opinion, live and let live, to each his own.
But marriage was designed to protect women and children. I don't think it applies to a gay marriage, where they probably won't be the traditional "mother and children" role.
As an expression of love, I have no problems with it. Marriage is defined by religion - it was an oath before God of loyalty, fidelity, and commitment to the family that resulted from that marriage.
The whole thing can be very hypocritical - why is divorce allowed in a marriage, when the bible says you are not to be divorced?

God made marriage. The fact that Homos want to get married makes no sense to me. You can't reproduce. God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. I am so tired of seeing Homo men on TV giving fashion advice to Women. They aren't even attracted to. I want God to Bless the USA not be mad at it.

im not afraid of it and the religious thing never crossed my mind cos its all a bunch of crap, i just dont agree with it. i dont have anything against gay people. i have gay friends who respect the fact that i dont agree with gay marriage. theres alot of other subjects to be considered linked to gay marriage. for example, they cannot reproduce, its not fair on a child not to have both mother and father and they should have to go through divorce like the rest of us would have to. but even if they did legalise it then it wouldnt bother me that much either.....i guess i just wouldnt vote for it
