Why do middle class women pretend to be superior?

Middle class America is comprised of a bunch of women who worship wedding rings, drive SUVs, and live in okay neighborhoods. And they cannot afford any of it. Their husbands buy them wedding rings with a credit card. They sign off on 30 year mortgages. And they finance their Yukon Denalis for seven years. Why?

Why do they try so hard to be someone else? Why do middle class couples spend themselves senseless, in an effort to project an image of class superiority?

Trixie, you have asked me this on several occasions. I live with my father. He makes 300 to 400 thousand a year. We are very conservative. We don't flaunt our wealth. We have a little bungalow on the beach (for vacations), but even that is not all that opulent.

My wedding ring cost $300 when we married on 1993. We saved our money for our house. We built that in 1995 and paid it off in 2008. I do drive a Ford Explorer but I only made 19 payments on that before it was paid off. I live within my means. I could actually live better but we choose to save our money. We are not all the same. Some of us don't have to impress others to be happy.

The pursuit of the american dream. Most people in our society believe that the possessions they have make them who they are. Instant gratification. But be fair here it is not just middle class women, it is men, women, rich, poor, and middle class.

Obviously not all are like that. I know a lot of women in my community like that, however. It's a constant competition and they are essentially competing to who goes bankrupt first. They miss one paycheck, and they're goners.

Why? Because everyone wants to be like the Jones'. The grass is always greener yada yada yada. We kill ourselves to "appear" popular and sophisticated and wealthy, and the funny thing is we end up bankrupt and living off welfare. Gotta love those damn Jones'.

because they are fake. i lost my job and im happier now than i ever was trying to pretend. life is so much better when you live within your means.

That sure is a lot of "they"s you are ranting about.

Look, if that's how they choose to spend their money, what do you care? My husband and I work our tails off to provide the kind of life we choose to live and give our kids...and with not one bit of debt.

And, NO ONE has the right to say a thing about it or try to change it. If people are stupid enough to mortgage themselves to the hilt to have what they want, more power to them.

Worry about your own household and quit judging what you think "they" are.

first of all i'm a middle class woman who has a nice wedding ring that i waited 2yrs to get because my husband and i dont believe in credit cards. we work our butts off so that we can give our children the best possible life and the suv we drive we only financed it for three yrs because we also saved money for that two and we only got it because we had a third baby. if not we would've been in our maxima and corolla still. i know a few of those who you are talking about but dont go categorising women like that. you say you guys dont flaunt your wealth but you wouldn't like it just because you have money for me to call you stuck up, you think your better than everyone and too good for everything . would you.
