Why do people get married?

I have been with my boyfriend/fiance for almost 5 years now, we live together and share our finances. We are basically living each day as a married couple, just without the paper work. We've talked about getting married before, but for the most part we are both content with how things are going right now. Recently I've started thinking about getting married, like I said we basically live as a married couple, but we would just be making it legal. I think we deserve to now be able to take advantage of the legal and financial benefits of being married as well. However, when I talk to him, he sounds interested one minute, then the next says he doesn't believe in getting married. His main statement is, 'why do people get married just because someone one day said everyone should?' so it brings me to my point, why do people get married and how can I make him see that it's really not all that bad?

the other Partner wouldn't get anything!
you get tax breaks and some other stuff!

but mainly a wedding isn't for you or him it's for your family and friends...

it's a cermoney announcing your love for another!

but with this mind set why not go to school and not get a diploma so you sit in class all day learning and you still know what you learnt but when you apply for a job and you don't hvae that document to show what you have learned it's rather pointless to the other peeps!

Just because you share everything and live together dno't make you married!

Hmm, this is an interesting question lol .. but I dunno...

Tbh, this got me thinking, and I reckon that MAYBE marriage is basically the same as being boyfriend and girlfriend, except with a load of hassle. You can still show you love someone even though you're not married.

marriage is the Ultimate commitment and just because others do not take there vows serous or thing go wrong it still is a spiritual commitment and out ways all other, I never live with a man before marriage i do not want the counterfeit i want the real deal,so i never date a man who did not think it a possib but i respect other choice it better to walk away

Tell him that even though it's not necessary, it's something that YOU want and if he wants to be with you and respects you he will respect your wishes. No man wants to get married, hon!...that's why you have to give them an ultimatum.
