Why do some people think there private goals are more important than family life?

All kinds of people have their priorities messed up. You can only control your mind thoughts and actions. Do not let someone else control you thorough anger and negative thoughts.

some people are more goal oriented to personal goals than family goals. they feel more self worth when archived their personal goals.
one the other hand a person who is goal oriented feels that family life/ goals hinder them from their private goals.

Pretty deep question. People differ from one another, sometimes drastically, when it comes to prioritizing their life. This could well be blamed on how their parents raised them, or some other psychological reason, but it's a fact you have to live with. When two people come together with extremely differing goals the relationship is doomed from the beginning unless one or both becomes more flexible. You apparently view "family first" as a goal in life, however there are plenty of people who will argue that point with you.

I encouraged my daughters to meet personal goals while delaying marriage. My oldest is 26, and she has finished school and grad school, lived in Barcelona and Great Britain, traveled in Europe three or four times, mounted a one woman show that she wrote and directed and several photographic exhibitions. She lives with a man from the Chech Republic, and she really knows who she is. If she married now, I believe she'd be happy. At 20, she didn't even know herself.

That's idealistic but not always realistic. There should be a healthy balance between personal and family goals. Doing everything for the family is not healthy either.

The key is to find balance between your personal goals and aspirations and family life. Sometimes, people don't realize that they are neglecting others by focusing primarily on their own goals. Talk to this person and help them find balance. Try to set some time for "family time" and some time where each of you attain to your personal well being, hobby, or private goals. When you tell someone they absolutely can't have something, they want it even more. So make sure you don't threaten their personal time altogether..

Work with them instead of against them to find a solution.
