Why is it that people stay in a controlling relationship?

Controlling people kind of lure you into their nets. They don't start out as controlling, on the contrary, they may idealize you for some time and you will feel lifted and special. Then they slowly start to change their behavior, very often use the sandwich formula of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. So you'll have bad patches and good ones, and they will turn stuff around on you to make you believe that the bad stuff wasn't that bad or that it was your fault. By that time, if you're in a relation, you may have kids, whose interests will keep you in even longer.

You are like the frog that is put in a pot of cold water. Everything is fine. Then the pot is put on a stove and slowly heated. You hardly notice the change in temperature but it will get hotter and hotter. Because it changes gradually you don't feel the urge to jump out, until you're finally burning.

People who are controlling are EXCELLENT at what they do. They are master manipulators. UNless you are in the situation yourself, it's difficult to understand. THey will turn the situation around to make it look like you are the one in the wrong. For example, I was once dating a guy and found a picture on facebook of him and another girl, arms around each other, his hands on her hips, very sensual while we were dating. Even with that evidence in front of me, he turned it around to say how dare I don't trust him, they're just good friends, etc.

Because the partner is controlling, they use control tactics like fear, and emotional manipulation to keep their partner close. The other person stays because they are terrified of what will happen if they leave.

it all really depends on the person who is involved. there are lots of factors to be considered. they might just like it that way. or they feel really secured by making the other partner feel secure and assured. or they may just really love that person and trust him or her with all of their hearts that they would want to be controlled. since they trust their partner, they are willing and that they are more fulfilled to know that they are being taught the right way (so they believe or think)... it really depends, as i said, coz not all people are in to those partners who just let them do what they want coz they sometimes think that their partner doesn't care at all. something like that.
but there are those who can't stand the fact that they are made to do many things and yet when it comes to their partners, they wouldn't do the same thing. which is just unfair.
it's because some people believe that once they do all those things for the person they love or care about, they are more satisfied knowing that their partner is happy and pleased.
they stay because of love, because of the concern,care, etc.. and sometimes, people just stay in a controlling relationship because they just want it that way. or that they wouldn't want to have it the other way around. some hope that one day. too, their partners would realize their worth and that the partners would also do the same to make you feel happy and assured too.
it's really not that simple coz as what i've said, it depends on the person who is in that relationship.
and there are some people who just don't get the point that a relationship has to work both ways. or that the partners should meet halfway inorder to make things easier for both sides. i guess some people just don't understand and just don't realize their worth as well. so they remain the same, making that relationship work.... even if it means or if it is..... a one-way relationship. and i'm just not quite sure as to when they can handle it or still hold on.

Cause they don;t know any better or don't feel confident enough in themselves to demand better or feel they deserve it. It is also scary to think you may be alone, in most cases you are not but it kind of feels that way, I used to think any relationship was better than none, now I know a better relationship with myself is what I needed to expect better. I am still working on it though!

i know thats true, its bc we love them with our heart and soul and we'll do anything for that person.. thats the reason why we stay in the relationship....
