Since the 1950s, the rates of recovery have been around 30% but that involves a lot of work, time and expense. So what's in it for the others?

today the rates are, imho, a little higher and there are educational programs and self help groups which cuts down on the expense. But no miracles can be counted upon....

Can you please source these figures? I would be frankly amazed if the success rate for 'going straight' were that high. Or above zero, really.
