My husband went to have dinner with his dad, and his brother in law. Fine and good, but damn, does dinner have to take FIVE HOURS??? I approached him about it, and his response was "You get to see your family whenever you want, so why is it an issue when I do the same thing?" Valid point, but whenever I see my family I always have the kids with me. This time I'm stuck @ home, and I feel as if he uses times like this to dodge his responsibilities at home.

@"bandaid", I don't think my kids are monsters at all. I just don't think it's fair that he has all the freedom and I feel like all I am is a glorified babysitter to him. I feel as if I have to account for every minute of every day, so he should be held to the same standard.

You don't want to really nag your husband for an evening out with family and friends, no matter how many hours it is. Let him enjoy. As for you, you and you alone are responsible for developing and nurturing your own friendships and activities so that you are able to go out for a 5 hour dinner also!
Really, to complain about this sort of rather innocuous thing just isn't fair. Life is too short to complain about things that aren't critical. |

Both of you need my time. So on his next day off set up a lunch or shopping with a freind or family and leave the kids with him.

Honey, this is life as a mother and a wife. I feel you, I go through the same thing and no matter how much we argue about it I always get the short end of the stick! I just figure once the kids are bigger I will get my own job, my own account and have my OWN fun, my husband can join if he wants! |

if this was a once in a while thing, get over it. i don't see it as a big deal. if you want to have a girls night with your family as he had a boys night with his, then leave the kids at home and go. nothing says you have to bring the kids with you every time you go out. |

So he left you alone with those monsters for FIVE HOURS????? How dare he!!!!!! If you need time out on your own without the kids, ask him to help you out, for heaven's sake. If he won't/can't accommodate you, hire a sitter.
