Why wont my husband go to the hospital?

My husband has thought he had testicular cancer every since he was about 14 years old. He has several if not all of the symptoms of it. I want him to go to the doctors so bad, but he wont. When he was younger he said he was to scared to tell anyone. But when I ask him to go now, he says he doesn't think we're in a point in our lives where we can deal with something like that. Especially financially, because he has 2 part time jobs and is going to college. (I'm a housewife, kinda) But i'm scared that if he doesn't get it taken care of that it will spread. He has a 142 IQ but yet he's SO STUBBORN AND STUPID SOMETIMES! He is 22 years old, and so many people depend on him.

Hi, I think he wants to look strong in the eyes of people around and maybe he has a wish to fight with the problem by himself. But really he is silly a bit - I agree with you. He must go to the doctor and know what is happening with his health. So try to speak to him once again and convince him, tell him you love him and need him.....

I think he is in denial because he is scared. And who could blame him? This is something serious. Reassure him that you will be by his side and you will both go thru this together! Be a supportive and understanding wife!

I can totally relate ....I had a lump in my breast for 3 years before I finally plucked up the courage to go and have it checked.

Its not being stubborn or selfish, it's out of fear. Kind of "if I don't know for sure what it is then I'll be safe"...I know that is totally illogical but it's exactly how I felt.

He will go when he is ready, you putting pressure on him (out of love I know) won't be helping him right now.

Well, first of all, if he felt he had cancer since age 14 I believe (as a nurse) that there is no way he would still be relatively healthy for this long. However, he obviously is having problems in that area that are of concern to you both and it is extremely irresponsible of him to NOT get it checked. He is trying to be responsible by working extra jobs, going to school, etc, but how would he feel if he were to be gone leaving you alone or the others who depend on him? As a medical professional, I assure you/him that there is nothing the doctors haven't seen and it's very important to accept that doctors are there for a reason and most things, even cancer, can be helped or cured if caught early enough. Waiting is simply the most selfish and irresponsible thing he could do. It could also affect his future if he thinks he may want children some day, whatever the problem is. Or, it could be nothing serious at all, or something that takes a simple treatment, and imagine how good it would feel to find that out?

He's thought that he's had this since he was 14 and hasn't seen a doctor about it? There is something very wrong with someone like that. They are usually making something up about themselves when they feel that all isn't about them or they like to put everybody's world upside down for that feels normal for them.

Whoa he really needs 2 stop bein a chicken n go. I hate doctors 2 but if he no's he got it he has 2 go. If u have kids ur goin 2 need him 2 go. Hel if u dont he does. Stubborn r not thats just stupid.

Not only is he stubborn and stupid he is selfish. Is he going to just drop dead some day and leave you high and dry? He needs to man up and see a doctor.

If he had testicular cancer at the age of 14, and he is 22 now, he should be dead. I had a friend die of testicular cancer in his teenage years.

If he went to the doctor, he would risk being told that he doesn't have it, and then what would he have to worry about? Let the hypochondriac alone.
