Would you turn off all the utilities?
Find answers to your legal question.

Would you turn off all the utilities?

So I know that I am making the right decision to leave my husband because when I am not around him, I feel good about the choice, I look forward to my future with my daughter, but when I am around him I start questioning myself becuase he is so good at manipulating the situation. I feel like I should leave now, however all the utilities in the house are in my name, should I turn everything off and leave in him the dust? I hate hurting people and causing problems but he's hurt me for so long and since I have the strength to leave now, I feel like I should. What would you do, turn the utilities off or give him a 2 week notice?

You are a woman of integrity and don't stoop to his level, give him exactly two weeks you can call and put the request in and post date it and don't get caught up in his problems..move forward and let life bring you joy..embrace the woman you are but still do it with class he is expecting you to act unruly..start your change right now and I promise you will turnout to be a beautiful Butterfly..my motto is "Start steppin' sistah" in the black community that means put your heels on, dress it up and go for what you know and don't look back..take yourself back and work whatcha got..many blessings to you..e-mail e if ya like I would like to know how things turned out for ya..and don't get caught up in the game

Well done for making the move, if he makes you unhappy. For the sake of your daughter, it would probably be better to give him some notice, and try to keep things as civilised as possible with your husband. Alternatively can you contact the suppliers and switch the accounts to his name? Good luck

I think you should first tell him you ARE leaving. Then leave. But, as for utilities, it's better to give him at least one week to get utilities in his own name. Now, if he's done something to ruin his own credit, it's just his problem. But IF both of you stiffed the utility companies when utilities were in his name, then those debts should be paid off by both of you. Otherwise, you'd be leaving him with an impossible situation.

Get out first and the inform him that on such and such a date the power will be shut off and he needs to make arrangements for power .

I am for making a clean break, for too many whenever there is some talk between the two the one tries to sweet talk the other one into staying and it just doesn't work, it's the same old trap. So turn them off and get out. Good luck

Well if he has treated you so bad in the past, then that is enough of a reason to turn the utilities off. And what's more is, you really need to turn them off so you can get your own place and you will need the other ones turned off anyway right? If you leave them on he may not pay you the cost of the utility bill. You need to look out for yourself and your child. I say Turn them OFF.
He can get them turned back on the same day that you schedule them to be turned off can't he? If he was a good husband then it would make a big difference but since he was a mean person to you then why help him?

I left an abuser while he was at work, and took ever stick of furniture down to the bed and the pots and pans, because it was all mine.

Your situation is a bit different, because you have kids together. For the sake of your coparenting relationship, perhaps you should give him the notice.

Good luck.
