what are some pros and cons of seeking couples counseling with my fiance before we get married? i'm not talking about serious at-each-others'-throats therapy (if that were the case we wouldn't be planning to marry) but rather a few counseling sessions to smooth out a few little rough spots (think: men are from mars, women are from venus) in an otherwise very loving and committed relationship. has anyone else done this and how did you feel about it?

My husband and I did it, he wasn't thrilled at first and to be honest neither was I, my parents were the ones making us do it. But we loved it, and it helped us understand our personalities better, how we react to different things, how to avoid fights because we know how each other reacts. What each of us is subconsciously expecting from marriage like little stuff, like is he gonna take out the trash everyday because its his job not mine. It was helpful and my husband and I didn't have a lot of problems before we got married, but I think we have even less because we did go through it. I would highly recommend doing it. They will get you to talk about some little things that you never thought to ask him about that deep down will matter some day. |

Its highly recommended. Everyone should do it. Nothing bad comes from counseling but sometimes things left unsaid create breaks in the relationship and ultimately destroy it. |

I did and it wasn't a magic cure but it helped get out alot of things that were bottled up and sure didn't hurt at all. My bf was hesitant to the idea at first, especially since we were scheduled to see a woman but when he saw that I had no problem with talking to a male he relaxed a little. Needless to say the first session was awkward because it's hard to start..nerves and all of that, but once we got to talking it did help alot. Good luck to you. |

We did, my EX and me. It wasn't worth the time. All you have to remember is to talk and share anything and everything! Get it out in the open. Let the small stuff go, and never go to bed angry at each other! |
