(10 pts) how far back is the Defense Language Institute backed up?

I wasn't aware that it's "backed up" at all. Each branch gets a limited number of seats for each training cycle. You could walk into MEPS, sit down with the Classifier, and be told you can leave in 2 weeks, 2 months or 10 months.... maybe all three.

In the Navy the manpower projections are updated twice monthly with the Classifiers getting a new requisition list the first Monday of each month.

It's not like they fill the seats starting at the closest date and then work their way out into the future. A seat, or seats, can pop open at any time. If something you want isn't available the first time you go to MEPS it's important that you say "NO!" and go back to MEPS again after three or four weeks.

It took me three tries to get the job I wanted. Nothing was available for shipping out in August 1974 the first two times I went up there and the third time I had two August dates to pick from.

There is no concrete answer to this because time frames are not set, they vary based on many factors. i took the DLAB in july of 2005 and left for boot camp in November but i was supposed to leave in october but i was delayed because of an issue i had. but i have friends who took the DLAB and left the next month or sooner. it depends on when you want to leave for boot camp, when the navy needs you to go, whether or nor you pass your physical or fitness test, etc, there are many different factors. if you pass all of these things, you can tell your recruiter that you want to go immediately or wait until later to go. good luck.

Getting a High DLAB isn't enough to get to DLI. The wait time depends on your MOS and other factors as well.

HUMINT Collector now has gone from language dependant job to "eh it's cool if you have a language but we'll give you a terp anyways" job, so it's a fight to. A SIGINT job is probably the best way you could finangle DLI into your initial contract to get sent there after your Initial Entry Training.

I would hold off going to DLI for arabic all together. The Arabic DLPT 5 test is a joke, and it's set up for you to fail. 3+/3+ linguists are getting knocked down to 1/1 because how bad it's written. Until they retool the test to make it fair, there would be no point for you to go to DLI for 50+ weeks just to fail by their standards.

Army Intelligence is testing out a 32 and 24 week arabic program right now, and the results are a little promising (they are getting the same bad results as the 56 week course at DLI, so it's optimistic at least)

Well sitting in my barracks at dli as an airforce Russian student I've heard a lot of things but for one because of the attrition rates here we don't get backed up just over populated also you should know you have zero control over what language you are assigned. But as far as how long to wait I really wanted this job so I turned an offer down for finance and held out for a position to come up in my state but that was only a few weeks later so its pretty much just chance. If you want it and are qualified it will come :)
